Eddie Hearn on the Ringside Toe 2 Toe Podcast regarding his comment that Broner would beat Burns

"Yeh I did and I still do. I haven't seen enough of Ricky. I think Broner is an incredible talent. When I went to see Ricky over the weekend the first thing he said to me was that he wants to fight Broner. I said I have seen him close up. The only reason I think Broner would beat Burns at the moment is he doesn't have the momentum, he's not been in those big fights regularly enough, if we can get him to that stage where his confidence is buzzing and he is really in the routine and motivated then I think he can give Broner a great fight, but I do think Broner is an exceptional talent, not gonna go back on my word, it looks like he is gonna fight Mallignaggi at perhaps 143lbs and once he has done that I am not sure he will ever come back. It wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't come back, because he is very very special, but so is Ricky Burns and we need that momentum to go into a fight like Broner"

This fight won't happen. It could have in the past but Broner has moved into a more attractive division and will fight bigger names. There's no chance the fight will happen now. Broner will either win and stay at 147 or he'll lose and go to 140.

Yeah, you have to seriously doubt it ever happens now.

Burns walked away from two big fights potentially. I do think that F.W. could/would have delivered the Broner fight, as Golden Boy were saying that they wanted it next.

Yeah, Burns is no one in America, and HBO/Showtime aren't going to want him compared to the names at 140.

You've ignored his qualifying statement which is the exact reason that Ricky didn't sign for the fight at five week's notice. Ricky needs to be fighting regularly so he's at the top of his game and then he can give Broner a fight.

What Hearn is really saying is that Broner would murder Burns and he hasn't just paid to have a fighter murdered! Broner's frame means he just isn't a lightweight so the stuff about Burns ducking him doesn't really hold true. The best business decision is to let Broner go on his journey up towards his true weight. When Broner is destroying welterweights and light middleweights in the not too distant future this Burns-Broner thing will have long blown over

I think this is fair enough too. Fighters need momentum because it builds confidence in them, which is crucial. A fighter shouldn't go into the biggest fight of his career, after a mismatch against Liam Walsh was called off. It's just the wrong build up entirely.

I haven't ignored anything. The question was a few weeks ago you said Broner would beat Burns.

I am sure Burns would want that fight. But for Hean & Morrison they will be perfecty happy with Ricky defending his title in Scotland vs Top 10/15 opponents and making a shed load of cash. Broner moves up and talk of the fight falls away.

As a fan I would love to see it, but if I was part of his team I would only fight Broner in Scotland.

Who would you see as a good opponent for Burns May 11th DF? I would like Raymundo Beltran.

I still think the Broner fight was a no lose situation, if he had won he'd be a big star in the states and start making some big money and if he'd have lost he'd still sell out 8,000 in Glasgow beating the guys he'll be fighting in the near future. I really think they've lost out on a 'shot to nothing' here.
