Ice skating compared to running, which is a better work out?

I feel that the ice skating motion is a more complete range of motion that uses more leg muscles and provides less strain on joints. Although, skating can kill your ankles. It is worth a try for anyone that runs to at least give skating a try at a local rink! I get bored running, I would rather skate.

"Ice skating is a terrific form of exercise to both tone the body and build cardiovascular fitness. The calories burned in one hour of ice skating can be compared to an hour of jogging — but without the impact on the joints. Skating tones and builds muscle in the buttocks, quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and abdomen. This is all great news if you know how to skate, but if you are not a skater, it can seem intimidating to get started."

Running you are straight up. Ice skating you lunge foreward, it seems it would do more to strengthen the leg muscles used to generate punching power? You always hear boxing commentators saying power comes from the legs.

I'd say they are both roughly the same.

Say that to a hockey player, teenage internet tough guy. You would have a problem wit a hockey player, he would make u feel like a pssy.

I can see "figure skating" making you feel like a *****. But skating is a great exercise.

Looking at the legs on those speed skaters, I'd say that ice skating is an awesome workout!

Figure skating also takes an exceptional ammount of strength, skill and coordination.

Ice skating no doubt, but it depends on what kind of skates you use. If you want explosiveness use hockey skates, for endurance use skates with a long straight blade. It's great for the core as well.

If you're that insecure you don't need ice skating to make you feel like a *****.

How does that make me a moron? It's pretty simple really. You should only be able to do a certain number of reps at a set percentage of your 1 rep max. If you can do more, you're not using enough weight.

Rough numbers:

1 rep max=100%
2 reps=95%
3 reps=90%
4 reps=85%
5 reps=80%
etc
etc

What, you think you'll be able to do 6 reps with your 1 rep max?

according to that chart 75% but its wrong. you cant just make a chart like that. if you take someone who lifts purely for enudarance and someone who lifts purely for maximum strenght the percentages are gunna be completly different

Yeah, it is much tougher being an American High school student, then sitting your ass on the internet all ****ing night long, having thousands of posts. Then watching TV before you go to bed. The only exercize you get is playing with yourself.
