    I was expecting Diaz to a) threaten more from the bottom and b) actually sweep St Pierre, by and large neither happened and once St Pierre secured a TD he practically did as he pleased with Diaz.

    As far as top games go, this has to rank up there as one of the most effective displays in recent years if ever!

    Diaz is very very good off his back and could do nothing while St Pierre had top control.

    Thoughts ................. :good

    What made you think that Diaz was going to sweep GSP? When was the last time that happened? I can think of maybe one time with Kos in the first fight? Diaz isn't that guy. Also, GSP's BJJ is way underrated.

    Its the best top game right now. The great thing is that He can throw the elbows at anytime and not get tied up. He's also had a ton of practice coz that practically all He does.

    The term BJJ is a generic term in todays MMA

    You have to have certain JJ skills in certain areas to be effective for MMA, St Pierre has mastered this from the top, from the bottom? we dont know, because nobody at 175 can put him there! Jonny Hendricks? :D

    Walking straight from Abu Dabi into a cage doesnt transition now! you need more. You need to be drilled in certain areas that traditional JJ does not school.

    Diaz is a level above most if not all of St Pierre's title defences, from his back, both defensively (sweeping ability) and offensively (submissions), and St Pierre handled him with relative ease in this position. I'll be honest, this shocked me, I expected Diaz to be the one who could have St Pierre in fits from his back.

    I know there's a size difference between Penn and Diaz, but I'd have thought that the ease with which GSP took Penn down and beat him up (especially the way he passed Penn's guard in the second fight) would have told you this. Have you seen Diaz sweep guys of GSP's caliber before? Honestly, I think the only guy whose sub game might worry GSP is Mia. He seems to be able to make that **** work better than anyone else.

    Outside of Maia, Diaz had the best chance in the WW division to sweep, or do anything from his back, against GSP. I'm not sure that a Maia fight will ever happen, so Diaz will go down as the best guard GSP ever went up against.

    He did very, very well.

    I wish that **** was in a ring an under PRIDE rules. GSP would have turned his head into a football. Very pleased GSP dealt with the matter. I hope Diaz takes his own crackish advice and ****s off into retirement. The dudes a classless bum.

    GSP has an excellent top game. Being big as **** doesn't hurt either.

    You seen the fight? Diaz got grapple ****ed. Can you imagine that fight in a PRIDE ring with knee's? **** would have been a wrap after 5 minutes and Diaz's corner would have had to scrape him off the canvass. :happy

    Ya, and I'm fine with that. To be fair, PRIDE rules allows the guy on the bottom a better chance to reverse the situation as well. I just preferred it overall. That and a ring has always seemed so much better for strikers than a damn cage.

    I wonder why he wasn't willing to knee Nick's very exposed ribcage. He didn't really put anything behind his shots on the ground.

    I'd be very impressed if the UFC would at least start allowing PRIDE rules in their japanese events. They won't though, because the differing results would disrupt consistency. Still:(
