He backed out of 5 fights, 4 against Rahman and 1 against Mccline, as the president of the WBC Soliman said in an interview in late 05, never in the 44 year history of the WBC, did a man back out of so many fights in a row.

Peter's style is tailor made for Vitali. Peter is a slow flat footed fighter who will eat jab after jab until Vitali decides to drop the hammer on him. It will be Danny Williams all over again Williams was more athletic in his movement than Peter is and still could not even land 50 punches in the fight. If Peter could not beat Wlad how will he beat Vitali? Klitschko by KO in 8.

Not good friends, but they've met eachother a couple of times, hung out around the time they were fighting on the same card, and Maskaev is someone Povetkin has looked up to. I'm sure he would love to fight Peter and it would be considered a revenge type of win in Russia. It would be great to see someone that talks **** fight Povetkin too. He has only fought nice-guy fighters like Byrd, Chambers, and in the future, Klitschko. I wonder how much it would affect him in the ring if someone like Peter constantly insulted him before the fight. Povetkin is actually a big Byrd fan and I think he was being too nice to him during their fight. For instance, he would apologize for every headbutt situation (pause and wave his hand to him like he's sorry) and constantly try not to be too physical on the inside.

Of couse you don't see this fight happening. And of course you doubt VK will make it through his training........we know that. :blood He'll be lucky to make it to the breakfast table without breaking his toe on the kitchen table legs, right? :blood

He'll merely change his name from Dr. Ironfist, to The Merciless Mayor, and keep right on fighting.

Bottom line, he's taking the fight, and will put on a clinic, and will show his little brother how to KO Sammy Peter, and in dramatic fashion.

I will say this much, I'm very pessimistic, but your way too optimistic my friend, Vitali cried wolf 5 times already, and I'm sure you believed him everytime. I wont be convinced until I see both Vitali and Peter in the ring, then I will be happy, and ready for the Heavyweight fight of 2000's.:yep

I am not too optomistic, its just that I realize that he has only suffered a mere two injuries in what most inflate into being 5 injuries. He had a torn knee (much like Tyson suffered against Williams) and a herniated disc in his back. THose were the only two injuries through this whole thing.........TWO..........The other two of the fight cancellations were due to a bone spur on his back, which caused pain in his thigh. This was not an injury, but a preexisting condition that he had been enduring for years. A bone spur, in no way, has anything to do with a body breaking down, as has been so rediculously said on this site, over and over. Fighters of all ages get injured that much, and its not embellished to mythical proportions, as this is.

So..........Two injuries does not mean a fighter is so fragile that he can't make it through training. I am not overly optomistic, I am merely seeing it for what it is, and that is that the injury thing has been greatly exaggerated and is now said back and forth amongst the kids on this site, til its almost believed. :-(

Don't be too surprised if the fight is made in Germany. Peter might have a hard time turning down that kind of the money.

Come on Heavy, a bone spur dont keep you out for the better part of almost 4 years, a knee injury could be more serious, and could end your career quite easily. Vitali did back out of 5 fights, if you want I could give you the link to the written statement Soliman gave on behalf of the WBC, regarding Vitali's injury, and how he backed out of 4 scheduled fights, something that never had happend un the WBC's 44 year history, up to that point.

If Vitali gets in the ring with Peter, then I will be happy, until then I have my doubts.

I don't know why you are saying four years, when he was retired for most of that time...........:-(

No, a bone spur can't put you out for four years ( not sure why you even said that, but).......but a bone spur in his back, pressing on a nerve did cause him to cancel two of his fights.

But regardling him being tagged, fragile...fact is, two of his cancelations were due to injuries, and ONLY two. A herniated disc and torn knee tendon does not mean someone is ready for the scrap heap, as has been said on this site by these 12 year olds, over and over and over, again.

Let's just wait and see. And come fight night, we'll see who gets injured.

I hope your not talking about me when you say 12 yearolds, but I know what your talking about. I know Vitali's your favorite fighter and all, but to expect him to come back a 100% or even 80%, is pushing it to say the least. Believe it or not, I was a pretty big Vitali fan from 01-05, he showed everything you could want in a fighter, toughness, chin, power, and even heart, which some doubted he even had until the Lewis fight.

I said 4 years because that's almost how long it will be by the time he fights Peter, I feel he will come in very rusty, and gun shy in a sense, it will be exciting back in forth action, up to the point where Peter catches him with a big right hand somewhere in the middle rounds, which will end up resulting in ref stopping the fight. I still feel this fights a 50/50 of it even going down, but if it does, I'm expecting excitement.
