Prefer Chess Matches or Bruising Slugfests?

Out of those options Donaire-Rigo. For me it all boils down to how meaningfull the fight is. I will always choose to watch a chess match between two top 10 p4p fighters rather than a slugfest between solid fighters.

Now if both options are all top 10 p4p then I don't know too close for me too call.

 

I'll take an action fight over a chess match more often than not. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a well thought out fight, but if I'm plunking down cash I want some action.

Plus, big PPV fights draw in casual and non-boxing fans. We don't want them saying "boxing is boring" or "that's why UFC is taking over." We want them to turn into boxing fans and keep the sport alive.

 

A combo of both, if anything. I like slugger vs boxer type matches or chess matches when one of the boxers goes for it when the opportunity arrives... I don't particularly enjoy Gatti-Ward type of fights - however exciting they might be, you get the feeling that the participants are just not very good and someone like FMJ would pick them apart no probs.

in the reference above easily Rigo-Donaire. We've seen Rios-Alvardo already and even then its not a clash of the two top guys in the division.

It all depends on the fighters. I would prefer a Ward-Hopkins showdown to a Rios-Alvarado fight. But at the same time give me Rios-Mattysse over a something like a Moreno-Rigo fight.

Boxing needs both,too much of one over the other wouldnt be good imo.

It's both kinds of fights that make me love boxing, honestly Rios-Alvarado is fun to watch and I'm sure it appeals to UFC fans, but Rios is just an action fighter and not what makes boxing better

I like both, but the slugfest gets you on your feet a lot more.

 

A chess match in which power is one of the pieces is the most exciting to me. Rigo/Nonito is a perfect example. At any moment, anything can happen. Every motion is important. The dramatic tension is at its highest.

 

MMA is for mindless games of chin. Boxing use to be called the "sweet science" and for good reason.

 

If I'm paying money and watching with a group of friends that know little about boxing I would rather have a slugfest, makes it more exciting when you're watching with a lot of people. Otherwise I pretty much prefer the technical chess match.

 

An stylist against a slugger.I love those kind of fights. Acosta vs Rios,Abril vs Rios,Martinez vs Junior.Sometimes the stylist can't take the pressure( Acosta) sometimes the slugger comes alive after been outboxed( junior )...sometimes the stylist keeps the slugger on bay ( Abril)...2 stylists can keep it too boring ( no for me), and 2 sluggers can make the fight too short.
