Why are you fighting X instead of X?

Quite often.

Floyd is my favourite fighter, but quite a bit he's asking something like 'well, so will you fight ___ next'

And he'll reply with 'well, I'm just glad I've got God with me, and my team Al Haymon and whatever happens happens etc'

Like wtf get a solid answer out of this man

 

I love this question. I ask it all the time. Why are the press so afraid to ask the questions on EVERYONE's minds? Do the promoters hold so much control over every facet of boxing that they even have the Journos scared to ask the hard-hitting Qs?

 

In general,I would say that the American Boxing journalists are a the top of the food chain.The worst examples originate from the UK,where they appear to give promoters all kinds of leniency.
As an example,at the Matchroom presser when they signed Burns,not a single question was asked as to the duration of the contract or which opponent had been agreed to.It was silly.It came out a few days later that it was a 3 fight deal-but what happens after this contract expired-does Matchroom have a first refusal or is Burns free?What about the Vasquez supposed signed contract?It was pathetic and clueless.:nut

And 2. There is actually a certain level of professional respect you feel you have to have as a journalist, when someone is good enough to answer your questions when they dont have to, it's understandable it can feel rude if you push something someone is clearly uncomfortable with

 

It seems like fighters that opt not to do a weigh in on fight night never get questioned about it. Did Oscar ever get questioned about why he wouldn't weigh in on fight night against Floyd?
