Haye - better than Lewis?

I was responding to the article's claim, I realize you were only reporting it, not supporting it. :thumbsup

 

I don't think there is the talent around for haye to ever surpass what Lewis did. Lewis beat a fantastic level of opposition, and some really big names too. Haye could be twice as good as Lewis, but if his demolishes everyone in this division, and then the prospects, he still won't rank as highly. The heavyweight division has several really good fighters. lewis fought and beat a lot more than "several".

 

You think he did the division a disservice by fighting Michael Grant instead of John Ruiz do you? Surely the WBA did the division more of a disservice by stripping the newly unified champion.

 

Lewis ruled a very deep division. The problem is, many of the best fights didn't get made. Picture Lewis having defended against Byrd & Ruiz and picture Tyson vs. Bowe & Bowe vs. Lewis, Tyson vs. Tua, etc. There were some great talents in the 90's but not all the great matches were made IMO.

Yes I think Lewis should've have fought Ruiz, then he could've KO'd Grant at a later date.

 

Mandatory defenses aren't always justified but without them there would be total chaos.

 

The boxing fraternity at large was clamouring for a Lewis Grant fight. A Ruiz fight didnt make sense. The WBA should have given him a period of grace given the hard work he put in to unify the belts.

 

Obviously bull****, some people just can't stand a Brit being an ATG top 3. Sad but true

I could rattle off 10 names on Lennox Lewis's resume that would be a major force in todays climate, and by that I mean champ or ranked 1/2. I'm not even one of these people that thinks HW is the worst division around, it just pales in comparison to years gone by

I disagree.......
Haye could do well in the division but......the division is **** weak.
The HW's would have to show more quality n depth for a sustained period of time, and in this time, Haye would have to clear up and reign for quite a while, maybe even suffer a couple more defeats, avenge them, become a 3 time champ maybe.....

Look at the names on lewis's resume........as well as winning the titles, he fought good performers to get there.

Haye has an opportunity to win a prestigious title, but while the division is so weak, it wont amount to much of a title......unless he takes it from wlad n defends it against vitali!
And if that ever happened, id afford him some more respect for winning it.

What he has done at CW cant be knocked tho, he went to France to face the Champ Mormeck, and came home with the goods......hes not been overly protected like FW's stable are.

 

I don't blame Lewis for wanting the bigger money fight vs. Grant, he should've been given a longer period before having to dfefend against his madatory, and in this case it certainly would've been fair for them to do so. I'm just saying that they're both to blame.

 

If he unifies and then defends the titles 10 times against solid and dangerous opposition then yea he will surpass Lewis.

 

That goes without saying now that we can look back, hindsight is 20/20.

If they did fight back then I'd have picked Lewis to KO Ruiz fairly early but that's not the point, keeping the titles together is the point. If we don't like the madatories being chosen, well that's another issue altogether. Austin did not deserve to be Wlad's either..............

 

Head to head I think Lewis KO's Haye within the first 2 rounds based on styles.
