Indeed. I find him somewhat unique in some ways. There have definitely been more mundane greats.

 

As for Floyd, i enjoy him in his more aggressive moments and at 130 when he was more boxer-puncher.

Since then it's mostly been accomplished, but quite tepid pure-boxing and potshotting stuff that has been done better and with far more flair and conviction by other fighters.

 

Agree, but it seems he never grew into that true welterweight physique before he retired.
Look at him now, he certainly looks more like a true welterweight. Maybe if he fights a bit more will see more action from him. He walked down Zab Judah pretty well, but Judah was a little guy.

John Ruiz wins this thread for the most boring and it's not even close.

 

Ruiz is not great, surely, even by the most modern of standards! So by default, he cannot be debated.

 

I'd really enjoy Floyd putting on his shows if he was fighting someone who could really compete with him.

As it is, he's putti9ng on textbook whitewashes against people he could probably blow away. He's boring as Hell because of it.

 

I love the Terrel, Liston, Williams, and Folley fights. Mildenburg and Patterson fights were a bit boring I suppose. The London one wasn't good, but the finish speed is unbelievable for Ali. Copper rematch isn't great either. Chuvalo fight was pretty good.

 

I am a huge B-Hop fan, but since he past his physical prime he has had some really dull fights (Wright and Calzaghe especially, and most of the Taylor fights).

It is of course necessary for him to drag younger opponents into these mires, but it is sometimes not pretty to watch.


I think Mayweather is hit or miss. I love watching him fight when he actually engages (Corrales, N'Dou, Hatton, round 11 of the first Castillo fight), but I detest watching him fight when he does everything he can to make sure a fight doesn't break out (Castillo II, Oscar) or when he is so safety-first that watching him is more frustrating and boring than it is enjoyable (Marquez, Baldomir).

I agree with the comments so far about Emile Griffith. Great fighter of course, but verging on soporific at times.

Depends what you define as great, but of recent guys I'd definitely say that Hopkins and Wlad are a little low on the entertainment scale myself. Ward can sometimes be very frustrating to watch as well.

Ultimately though, at that stage, it's very difficult to be truly boring. At the very least you're going to be landing crisp clean shots to your opponents' grills, at best putting on masterclasses in which your full range of skills are displayed. Unless you find one sided beatings or whitewashes boring (I can understand if you do) then you're going to be witnessing some quality boxing at several, probably numerous, stages of the fight.
