Later on they rematched and Lockett won a UD. After watching this fight it is pretty obvious that he has absolutely no shot at upseting Kelly Pavlik, it will end early by knockout. Of course Kelly deserves an easier fight after Miranda and Taylor, this one is going to be very easy. I hope Kelly takes a very short break after this one.
I don't think you can judge Lockett based on 2 rounds from 13 or 14 fights ago. That would be a bit like watching Anthony Ivory or Ross Thompson take Kelly Pavlik the 8 round distance, and then deciding Pavlik had no potential! At this point, based on some things Jack Leow said, I think we will see something similar to Pavlik/Zertuche. Boo
Yea ok 8 rounds against a stiff is ok if you win, Locket lost and he fought a 12 rounder. He lost 6 pr 7 rounds in that fight and was a complete mess at the end, both eyes almost closed shut.
fringe are where the punches will land...... and a few on the jaw....... Then lockett hits the floor........
I watched this fight live at the time, n b4 hand lockett was blowing a few away so this was seen as a routine fight...... I remember thinkin how ordinary he looked...... He was well n truly exposed n tho he avenged it, and has improved a lil along the way, he is still well short of top level.
That fight was one of Locketts worst performances - he was too weight drained coming in at 154, he broke his hand in the fight and early on his nose was badly broken which meant he had a lot of trouble breathing in the later rounds. You won't learn a huge amount by just watching this one fight. Lockett has a punchers chance but is obviously an underdog - thats why Pavliks people are putting him in there.
lamb to the slaughter, a guy relying on power has to get close for that. Kelly 29 ko's in 33 fights also has height and reach advantage. Guarenteed KO and Kelly looks spectacular doing it.
