The finals is two meets, on May 10th and 11th.

So it could be a home-and-home like the quarters and semis, or it could be neutral. :think

Just looking at it now your right. It is two legs. Last year they had the final between Russia and Italy in london. Not too I like the two leg final might miss out on a few good head to head match ups.

On another note whats Mexico best five fighters like? Do they a chance of beating the lionhearts 5-0?

I would presume that, like the QF and SF, in case of a tie over both legs of the final they would go on to a sudden death box-off.

I wonder if they'll keep it consistent and have it be middleweights. :think

The 5 the lionhearts have picked are weak as well.

Lionhearts have a good first team but their squad isn't great. Middleweights have been especially poor. I think Mexico still have a chance in this tie.

Question: does anybody know why the India Fighters (originally Mumbai Fighters last season, renamed during the build-up to season 3 when all WSB squads were re-branded to reflect national origin rather than specific cities) pulled out mere weeks before competition started? :huh

I know Vijender Singh had expressed his enthusiasm about participating and chastised the decision makers for withdrawing the franchise.

That said, how would they have done with Singh leading the best of their young amateur crop? They reached the quarterfinals in the 2011/2012 season without the 2-time Olympian.

I have to figure they would have outdone their replacements.

The Algeria Desert Hawks were dead last in their group, went 18-31 in total bouts, and had the 2nd worst overall record behind only the pitiful USA Knockouts. :verysad

India could've made the playoffs, seeded anywhere from 2nd to 4th depending on how the match-ups went. What a strange decision to sit it out...and what a waste bringing in Algeria to basically serve as tomato cans.

Probably money, can't be cheap having one of these franchises. I'd like to see Ireland have a team since we already have a shitload of successful fighters in the WSB but can't see it happening due to funds not being available.

The franchise wasn't dissolved, though; they chose to sit on the sidelines this year and claim they intend to return later. :think

It has something to do with breach of ethics and corruption during the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation's elections. The IABF is suspended for 2 years i think.

Oh ****. I was going to say "Well maybe they'll miss their chance on having Singh on their national team in WSB if he loses his patience and turns pro..." - but it turns out he is also in hot water. :yep

Doping and/or heroin dealing. :-( Implicated by a friend and training partner.

On a positive note, ESPN2 FNF is on at 9pm EST, meaning it won't clash with the 2nd leg of Great Britain vs. Mexico at 11pm EST. :banana A full night of continuous boxing on Friday!

Damn it, damn it, damn it.

I was hoping Lomachenko vs. Selimov III would be later in the meet, near the end as the 'main event'. They usually do ascending order of weights, but not always. Unfortunately they are this Saturday. My boxing class is Saturday morning from 10-11am (getting out exactly when the meet starts) and it takes me ~90 minutes to get home. :verysad Selimov and Lomachenko will be long done by then. I'll be lucky to catch the 4th & 5th bouts - and MW tiebreaker if necessary.

I have to either skip class or miss catching the most anticipated single bout of the WSB season live. :wall
