Prime 4 Prime - Tyson vs Lewis

Lewis was reluctant against an old faded Tyson, and was rocked with a Tyson jab and outboxed in the first round. Unfortunately that was all Tyson had in the gas tank, but that should give you an idea of Tyson at his best, who you don't quite give enough credit to his own bob and weave defense.

Lewis KO 3? Lewis couldn't put a docile Tua away in 12. Lewis' chin would be checked very early, and very often by a prime Tyson who Lewis would find very hard to hit cleanly, not to mention very reluctant to engage.

 

Tyson would KO lewis every time i think. Prime tyson beats everyone in my book. he was the ulitmate fighting machine.

The Kurgan- good analysis, but you mentioned alot of knockdowns or knockouts, which happend well past Tysons prime, in his prime his chin was granite and tested by big punching Heavyweights like Bruno and Ruddick, and never went down or was barely hurt, even after he being hit by the biggest punch in the game at the time "The Smash", Lewis didnt have the one punch power of either man, I just dont see Tyson getting knocked out by Lewis.

From up until shortly after Tyson won the title I don't think a Prime Lewis could handle Mikes explosive power.

 

That's because The Kurgan's a classic poster boy. Good analysis, though I still believe Lewis was the bigger single shot puncher.

 

Great read, especially the last paragraph, though i'd give power to Lewis by a small margin. Tyson couldn't put Ruddock away legitmately over 17 rounds while Lewis did it in 2. I don't buy in the "Tyson ruined Razor's chin" stuff, although of course this comparison doesn't necessarily mean Tyson has more power. Both are at the end of the scale, but i'd give a slight edge to Lewis here.

Bruno and Ruddock landed single punches; Lewis would be landing combinations. There is a major difference. I also mentioned things which happened out of Lewis's prime. One cannot excuse Tyson's numerous KO losses after his prime and not excuse Lewis's problems outside of his prime.

Excuse Tyson's stoppage/KO losses to Holyfield and Douglas, and you have to logically excuse Lewis's stoppage/KO losses to Rahman and McCall.

 

That's a good point actually. Lewis also hurt Holyfield more seriously in their fight than Tyson hurt Holyfield in 14 rounds. Lewis also short-circuited (a superior version of) Bruno with fewer punches than it took Tyson; he nearly KO'd Tucker despite landing far fewer power-punches; he destroyed Golota in a round while Tyson had double the time but couldn't finish Golota despite landing many more shots.

I'll now revise it: Lewis was the bigger one-punch hitter, but Tyson threw better combinations and was the more effective finisher at his peak.

Lewis would have beat his ass down:deal **** Holy whipped Tyson, and lost to Lewis what does that tell you this topic shouldn't even be up for discussion., **** Tyson was over-rated as hell, the best fighter he beat during his prime was a scared Spinks, the 1st time he stepped into the ring with a tall fighter with a good jab, who wasn't scared of him he got a total beatdown by Douglas...
