I agree. Pacquiao may have technical flaws but he is in no way 1 dimensional. People should try boxing to appreciate that this guy isn't 1D. Same goes for Ricky Hatton, For what Ricky Hatton has to work with (body size/structure) he IMO is absolutely amazing. And people who can't distinguish the difference between having technical flaws vs 1D have mental health issues.

 

The 12th round was Marquez's round but it was closer than what many think it is.

and I blame that on Lampley, the entire round he was on Marquez's nuts saying he landed a hard punch, but when Pacquiao was landing he didnt say **** about it all round long.

Anyone who says the round wasnt even close is just easily manipulated by TV commentary.

 

Pacquiao is technically improved but still not the most technically sound boxer in the game. I still give Marquez at the edge.

The title alone made me know you were gonna be biased as hell.
As i wrote earlier Pac has improved greatly compared to what he was. He is still not average in the technical department i dont think.

People forget that the reason he is so succesful is that he has awesome power and speed. If he was as technically sound as you say do you think he would outbox guys like JMM and Guzman if that speed and power was not there??
Hell no. He would get picked apart and made to look like a fool. Yes his little technical improvements are obvious but its actually his Physical attributes which make him great.

 

And actually right now i would say the best technical fighters are PBF and JMM. Its a tie in my opinion because PBF does not have the offensive hunger like JMM does but his defense is amazing which is something that JMM has but tends to get hit a bit more. I cant pick between the two...

 

No he is not. i could list a TON of boxers that are more skillful than pacquiao

 

Sorry to disagree with you folks . . . Pacquiao's speed, timing and pressure wins him his fight . . . but not his technical ability.

There's nothing new in that information. Real boxing fan could easily distinguish what a technical boxer is.

I think most of the posters here failed to see what the threadstarter was trying to point out.
I believe he was trying to point out that Pacquiao is more techically sound than people believe him to be, and give him credit for.

The threadstarters 12th round breakdown was a description of the exchanges throughout the round.
The round breakdown seems to fairly recognise the actual punches thrown. When considering the punches that had landed, it was actually a competitive round.

Even if the round breakdown is somewhat biased in that it gives focus to Pacs good work in the 12th round, so what?
After all, judging by the thread title, the focus is on Pacs technical ability.

Perhaps, the main focus of this thread is lost when reading the post so as to argue who won the 12th round. (I personally feel as though Marquez edged this round)

The thread is not arguing who between Pac and JMM is the more technically sound fighter.
We know that JMM is no doubt technically better.

It is written so as to point out that the Pacquiao of today is technically sound to a degree (i'm not sure as to how high of a degree that is exactly), but his technical ability is evident when breaking down the exchanges in the fight.
He was able to compete extremely well with the technically superior JMM not with strength and speed alone, but by utilising feints, dodging, slipping, blocking, body punching, counter punching ability, along with his improved footwork.

In my mind, there is more to Pacquiao's game now and he now has to option of either bullrushing opponents, or boxing them (with technical ability, albeit it in own unique style). Can't speak for anyone else, but I have come to appreciate his technical ability.

On a side note: Definitely cannot go by what Lampley says when determining punches landed.

Good post. He isn't not totally one dimensional, but he does have many "technical" flaws. To label him as one of the best technical fighters in boxing in flat out ridiculous.

 

Pacman also has a great chin, power in both hands, and is all action we should just sit back and admire a once in a lifetime talent.
