TONY BELLEW v ISAAC CHILEMBA Predictions!

I'd love to see Bellew get put on his arse, but I just don't see it.

This goes to points for a split IMO.

This is one of the weirdest things on ESB for me. I can see why people predict close decisions or shutouts etc but how on earth can you know how the 3 judges are going to side?! Everybody should know by now that judges are a law to themselves so I don't know how anyone can predict 2 judges favouring one fighter and the other going the other way. Madness!

 

Tony Bellew hasn't fought anybody that's "come to win" since Nathan Cleverly and he lost.

Saturday night he's gotta guy who is definitely coming to win.

I pick Chilemba to win on points but I wouldn't be surprised to see Bellew get a hometown decision either.

 

Or perhaps you posting BEFORE thinking is ever so slightly a little madder.

Chilemba is sharp. He's got decent hand speed, particularly when he throws that sneaky right hand as a counter. His punch variety in the main is sound but it's that right hand which is his obvious weapon. I actually see a lot of similarities in him and Bellew and that's what makes it such a good fight. They are both fighters who prefer it at range, orthodox with their reliance on 1-2's whose work tends to become a bit sloppier on the inside. I don't think either is a great inside fighter and whilst they can land punches there, they are also vulnerable to shipping a few too.

Whilst I think Chilemba is the quicker of the two, I think that Bellew takes this fight due to having heavier hands and crucially the better jab. Chilemba's jab is not authoritative enough to make headway in this fight and it's been shown that he is open to either be countered with an overhand right or beaten to the punch with a snappier jab, which is what Tony's is. Bellew crucially can double & triple up the jab and that variety can give him a big advantage with the two of them looking to dictate from range.

I've always felt that working off the jab makes Bellew a far more effective fighter than when neglects it and tries to hook his way in. When he crowds his work, it's slower, wider and easier to avoid so the power he's looking for just doesn't come. In this fight more than any, it's vital he makes full use of the jab. Varying it by leading with the straight right is a good tactic as well but it's key that he sticks to these straight shots because they will win him the fight. Chilemba's counter ability comes from opponents not jabbing their way in and leaving them open to his right but if Bellew is disciplined enough to avoid doing that, I think he takes away a lot of Chilemba's threat.

Isaac is a good fighter and I like how he mixes body and head shots but he's not consistent enough from what I've seen to control a 12 round fight. Bellew will take shots I'm sure of that but he will also land plenty too and he is without doubt the bigger puncher of the two. That power can be a decisive factor but I've got a feeling that if Bellew intends to take as much risk out of this as possible, he will stay controlled and probably take a decision. There's a slight possibility of a knockout I reckon but I'd be more confident of Bellew taking an 8-4 type of decision win

i digress. tony bellew survives a kd to win on points, i hope anyway as i like the guy and he does have good skills
