People just cant stop talkig about the guy. Theres literally no one else like this in the history of ESB - retired years ago, and still people here constantly talk about him

To answer your question - Hopkins awesome form post Calzaghe makes his resume better with each win. He absolutely ruined Lacy, and beat a prime beast in Kessler (whom he also arguably ruined)

His resume is lacking in big names, but these 3 wins show how capable the guy was when he had to step it up

I'd rate him a hair above Ottke and neck-to-neck with Zsolt Erdei

 

The person whos raved the most here is Wlad Klitschko!

Unfortunately...yes...it's improving, Bernard cannot claim to be great but minimise the Calzage loss...right now their greatness goes hand in hand....Calzage's legacy is no where near the level of Hopkins...however it cannot be dismissed...based on Bernard & Kessler legacy's.

 

it depends on how you look at it. in terms of hopkins and kessler, yes it is looking alright. in terms of atg status as some of his fans claim, no way. his resume is waaaaaaaay too thin.

 

Whys it unfortunate? Granted,, Calzaghe didnt step up to the plate all to often, but when he did, he rose to the occasion. He reduced Bernard to needing a 5 minute time out to avoid being STOPPED. Not just beaten, physically STOPPED

 

Look mate, I Joe had talent he did, hand speed, stamina, decent reflexes & the ability to ADAPT....however I have never rated him that highly...prime Roy would have finished him IMO...Bernard...a few years earlier to their fight, would have finished him IMO...

but hey that's life can't blame the guy for fighting them when he did...it is what it is...

Hopkins went 12 rounds with a lot worse fighters than joe. If you look at Hopkins wins he was at his best just before and after joe. Doesn't matter about his age. Until Hopkins got beat by Taylor his résumé wasn't much better than joes. All his best wins came against much smaller fighters moving up.

Obviously since then Hopkins has fought a who's who of top fighters between light middle and light heavy.

Rjj at his prime was an atg who would beat almost anyone from any era.

I think joes style would have made his a tough fight but would expect rjj's hand to be raised at the end of 12 rounds.

Joe had a very good chin but was prone to being caught cold, he always got up and came back better. Excellent recovery.

 

His two biggest wins; Hopkins and Kessler, have each gone on and continue to enhance their own legacies further after defeat to Calzaghe. Therefore, I think it is clear that Calzaghe's resume has aged well from that, as those two victories comprise much of his legacy.

However, if one goes by what his opponents went on to do, than you must consider how Roy Jones has looked way worse since the Calzaghe fight and how a guy like Jeff Lacy, and to a much lesser extent Omar Sheika, proved to be a fraction of what he was seen as at the time.

In my opinion you value what they did up to that point and where they were at mostly, but also what they went on to do after, the extent of how to view depends on the measure in which they improved or regressed in legacy. Overall, I'd say it's improving because of my first paragraph and the fact that he has stayed retired and remained an undefeated champion, one of few in history.
