    Both of them beat Hopkins way more convincing than Calzaghe did.

    That is fine and I respect your opinion. Just think joe gets a hard rap for 2 flash knockdowns against these fighters. He was not hurt and has excellent recovery so think anyone would stuggle to take him out. Also a very intelligent boxer who could adapt to any situation, including knowing when to hold on and not get caught.

    Rjj could of taken him out but Hopkins took 12 rounds against joppy and Eastman just a few years before and whilst they have very solid chins they aren't the boxer that joe is.

    Joe was VERY hurt after the RJJ KD - that was a brutal forearm shot that would have stopped a lot of boxers. Joe showed awesome recovery ability and a ton of heart to get up and actually end up clowning Roy within the very same round :lol:

    Just to verify I am a massive fan of jones, Hopkins and calzaghe. I went to both fights not just to see joe but to see 2 atg's. other than meldrick Taylor and srl, rjj is my favourite non British fighter.

    Obviously because I am British, I favour British fighters but that doesn't make me a fan boy or a "Brit ****". I favour them as I have watched them from their first fights and even some amateur fights.

    With joe, you could always see he had something special even if he didn't fight all the fighters he should have. Which I blame his promoter for more than I blame him.

    Calzaghe is just one of those fighters that will never get the credit he deserves.


    The same people who say someone like Joe Lewis is great will turn round and say Calzaghe isnt.

    Sadly true

    But then, you can see hes got a lot of supporters on here, and anyone i know whos not a diehard boxing fan but likes boxing thinks the guy was great


    British boxing's not gonna see someone that good for a long, long time

    Amazing how the ageing process doesn't seem to affect certain fighters. Joe is the only fighter who was in his prime from the start of his career right until his last fight. No way his punch resistance could've been remotely diminished at all after almost 30 years of fighting with a very aggressive style and getting whacked in the head, especially when you factor in he often didn't wear any head gear in sparring (he hated wearing it) and he absorbed countless flush bombs like these throughout his career.

    Amazing how his power didn't diminish either. I mean it's not like he had been plagued with cronic, career threatening hand injuries from his early teenage days in the amateurs right up until he hung up his gloves for good. Not like something like that that would've hampered a fighter in any way. I mean it's not like a boxer's hands are the tools of their trade or anything.

    By the way, Hopkins couldn't knock out a prime Calzaghe with a ****ing sledgehammer. Although I'm sure a light-heavyweight Hopkins who'd bulked up on the same **** Mackie was pumping into Roy's ass for the Ruiz fight, who refused to step on the scales for HBO's unofficial fight night weigh-in, and one who the HBO team said looked noticeably the bigger man of the two, would've been more than capable off dropping a past prime, completely ****ed metacarpals Calzaghe with a sneaky straight right down the pipe if he then followed it up with an ever so unintentional push to make sure he went over. I think that Hopkins probably might have been able to even make Joe's legs dip slightly later on in the fight too if he violently crashed the top of his grizzled dome (ie. his pet 'punch') into Joe's face immediately after landing one of those sneaky rights.

    When you remove Hopkins, Calzaghes career has aged brilliantly with Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Veit, Brewer, Mitchell, Lacy and Kessler who had all been or were SMW champs.
    Consider that Hopkins in my opinion doesnt have any wins as good as Eubank or undefeated Kessler, yet Calzaghe has both and a win over Hopkins
