When someone bets £15k on a Hatton fight after he has not fought for three years, is that person disrespecting his family finances?

It’s the exact mentality every fighting man should have...to be prepared and willing to die in the ring if necessary.

It’s the job of the referee and your corner to decide if you can continue…it should never be in your head that there is a point where you will probably quit.

Making a conclusion that it means a fighter loves his children less, is frankly absurd.

  3. So is saying 'I'd die for my country' crass considering the slavery, bigotry & unecessary war carried out by said country?

Is saying 'I'd die for my girlfriend' crass? Myra Hindley was someone's girlfriend.

    Where does it end?

If you find that crass then I believe you will find boxing in general to be a little too harsh for your sensitive nature.

There is absolutely nothing daft about saying he is prepared to die in the ring.

What is generally considered bad taste in boxing is when a fighter declares he really wants to hurt his opponent, put him in a comma, or make orphans of his children.

To say you will die in the ring, is to declare you will NEVER quit.

I think he does mean it. You have to go into a boxing ring fully committed, if you give anything less than 100% then you aren't giving yourself the best chance to win. Before you go in you have to be aware of the slight possibility of death and accept the risk. If you go in telling yourself that you will give it a good go but if it gets tough then you will give up then you will dwell on negatives and give up at any setbacks. It's all psychology, you have to go in be prepare your mind and body to give every single bit of energy it possibly can to winning that fight.

That mind sound like nonsense to someone but I believe that those who have fought will agree with much of what I've said. Until you've done it a few times you don't know the mental preparation that it takes to get ready to fight.

But posting under the name Satan, now that's classy. Nothing daft or crass about that.

For someone claiming to have had 60 fights, you must understand why a fighter would believe he would go all the way in the ring?

At worst it was unnecessary to say it out loud, but if you say something you truly believe then it is hardly daft.

Some of the comments Fury made about really hurting Cunningham, and he should prepare his wife that he will be hurt, or something along those lines...now that made me slightly uncomfortable, but I understood it was fight hype talk. What Tony said was different. it was just him revealing basic warrior psychology. Before any fight you must truly believe you will fight until the end, and give what ever it takes.

If you quit in the ring when the going gets tough, you can tell yourself afterwards that you will live to fight another day, that you made the intelligent choice, that you can go home safely to see your family....but if you tell yourself these things BEFORE the fight...you have lost the battle before it has even begun.

    Lirva,

    Go and find Roberto Duran.

Walk up to him and say 'Hey Mr Duran. When you said you would be prepared to die in the ring...... Were you disrespecting your kids?'

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we would all enjoy his response.

If you could get someone to film it so we could put it on here in another really well thought out and boxing related thread, that would be just super!
