Well you can dig in Eubanks career and find that he had some bad nights too. Remember Tony Thornton, who he got a gift decision against? That same Tony Thornton that Toney made easy work of?
You can dissect almost any great fighters careers and look for some bad nights, and then argue that they weren't great after all...

 

As for Toney against Eubanks at CW, I think Toney would win a decision, just because he seemed so much fresher at CW than Eubanks was. Those who think any of the two would get stopped are delusional.

At 168 things might look different - on his best night, I'd favour Toney, but on every other night it would be a 50/50 affair.

Both men were great fighters and first ballot Hall of famers.

As for Jirov, many seem to forget just how good this man was before he lost to Toney in that fight of the year. And how good Jirovs losing effort in that fight was. He made the great mistake of following Toney to HW to get that rematch. Jirovs style wasn't suited against true HWs. He should've stayed at CW and reigned there for some more years, without Toney being around. Hell, I'd favour a 2003 version of Jirov against the CW David Haye.

Eubank barely got passed Malinga and got gift decisions against Thornton, Schommer, Benn II and Sherry. He was also beaten twice by Collins who worked as a electricianatsch.

Honestly speaking James Toney is one of those guys where it's tough to decided if he wins these fantasy fights because of how erratic his displays were. Sosa, Thadzi, Tiberi, Williams are not wolrd beaters by any stretch of the imagination yet all of them pushed a close enough prime Toney to his limits and beyond. Though in saying that i'd still pick Toney over Eubank.

 

Toney grew into CW, Eubank put weights in his pockets to appear heavier when he fought at CW.
Eubank fought a far bigger stronger CW than Toney ever fought and I am including Jirov and Eubank put him down and only lost a close decision. I dont think Toney would have done as well.

I think it would have been a good match up at CW, but Eubank would have taken over by the middle rounds for a clear UD.

His prime was around McCallum I not sure when it ended due to all of that training at Burger King, but he was definitely passed prime at cw. He never really recovered from that Jones loss. Wasted a lot of years drifting at lhw before hooking up with Roach and moving up to cw, where he seemed to regain his old form for a while.

 

Tony was on a different level to Eubank, who never beat a elite fighter in his career.

I believe we've been through this before and you conceded that Benn was an elite fighter who Eubank beat.

 

I said Benn at smw was world class and he really should of got the win against Eubank.
