Willie Limond grabbed the vacant IBO intercontinental lightweight title with a convincing points win over Martin Watson.
In an exciting fight which both men went at each other from the first bell, it was Limond who emerged with the belt, winning 119-111, 119-109, 118-110 on the scorecards.

With both fighters tiring Limond used his experience to keep out of trouble.

Well done to ESB's very own Willie Limond!:happy

arite lads a was there n what a good night it was for scottish boxing with a sell out crowd and a main event which lived up to expectation. willie came close to stopping martin on a couple of occassions but watson hung in there and showed his worth although the result was never in any doubt. shame it wasnt on telly:good

Did he **** come close to stopping watson, wot fight were u watcing?
it was a good fight but it wasnt the same martin that fought lee meager a couple of years ago. If they'd fought back then it would have been a different story

unfortunately mik its not the watson from then,
i think he lost a bit of hunger through all the hype that ricky took when it should have been martin to be fair, earl didnt want the fight with martin so he thought he would take an easy option in ricky-mistake yes but ive seen both lads grow into the fighters they are and martin in my mind was always the toughest and better boxer but where he goes now i dont know,as for ricky all the best with his team and hope he can get a title.
martin is one of the nicest boxers i know(willie limond too) and i think hes just been handed a rough time in his career.

    mik,
did rab eventually go with braveheart or did he stay on his own?

    all the best guys

Great to see another good British fighter continue his career. I doubt Limond will contend on the world stage like his managment think but the Euro level guys are definetly within reach.

    Well done Willie.

I watched the fight as a neutral and Limond never came close to stopping Watson and the fight was tighter than the scores suggest. Good fight though.

as limonds brother ur a bit blinded from reality. Limond won fair n square but it was no where near the shut out the cards suggested.

a couple of times martin covered up while limond flurried for a few second but that was it, thats not being nearly stopped.

MTG- Rab stayed on his own and didn't go with braveheart.
I think watsons just not as hungry as he once was because he's had an unlucky career being robbed against guys like meager.

Totally agree with MIK, Watson was never in trouble, although he did take some murderous punches, the boy has got a great chin thats for sure. Limond won it comfortably but the scores didnt reflect what a good fight it was, Martin pressed the whole night but Wullie was a but too clever for him in the end. Shame for Martin cause he's a good wee guy and a tough as a boxer you'll find anywhere. Limond has improved, although I dont necessarily think its cause hes trained by Billy Nelson, just think he looks more confident in his own abilities since the fight with Khan. Must admit I would back Wullie to beat Khan in a rematch, but cant see Khan giving him one, too dangerous an option. Great main fight, but wasnt overly impressed with the rest I must say. Martin needs to fight a lot more regularly if he is to make any kind of mark in the title mix, 2 fights in 2 years just aint enough.

ok maybe i am being too biased towards willie, although ad say willie rocked martin on occassions ad have 2 watch it again as you do get caught up in it, but as for saying the result would have been different years ago is rubbish martin had the same amount of time as willie to prepare for this fight rather than the short notice he's had in the past
