Bellew barely hit chilemba all night whose foot-speed and movement from the ropes where to much for Bellew although chilemba did not have much in the way of offensive weapons he just outboxed Bellew without hurting him the fact the crowd did not go mental either shows no-one cares about Bellew or they thought it was fair
That's nothing new though is it? Just like fighters are likely to make ill-informed, heat of the moment statements immediately after a fight, as Bellew did tonight, so are people on ESB . Boxing fans always go a bit loopy when things don't pan out as they expect to or if they feel a great injustice has been done to one fighter. Or maybe they all bought into the Bellew hype and now can't handle the reality.
look at the 14 minute mark, he's willing to die in the ****ing ring? yeah just like you proved tonight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRgAThY5K9Y
Agree with Ishy. Tony's attitude has made this particularly poor. He's been talking up how he's a big puncher, destructive, really exciting. When did he actually look all that devastating in the last 24 months? In a close, tactical affair against Cleverley? In a close, tactical affair against Chilemba? In a tactical, measured performance against Miranda? McKenzine? Etc., He's not especially dynamic, not particularly powerful. Just a decent pro with grand ideas and limited ability. That's ok - but giving it the Johnny Big Balls before every fight before boxing cautiously to a 12 round decision is hardly endearing. Especially when you act like an entitled wanker when you don't get the decision.
Bellew is average at best yet he talks like a world beater. He was terrible tonight against a mediocre opponent, Chad Dawson would oblitherate him.
It was awful. A come forward guy with low output, who was missing by miles and not even coming forward. Versus another guy with no power and no real amibtiion.
When he makes a big deal of saying things like 'I am willing to die in the ring' and then puts in a performance like he did tonight, then people have a right to call him out on it.
dont think i could give bellew a round after the 6th. He looked appauling and needed a big performance, Eddie Hearn said as much the other day. 3 fights on sky under matchroom and failed to really perform in any of them. Sky want excitment and bomber aint givin it. He never tries to capatalise after he does land a big shot, takes a step back or goes for a walk as if to admire his own work. He got landed on a lot tonight, have to be honest a bigger puncher could of have bellew in trouble tonight. He meant to look great in training but he faded heavy in last 6 rounds, looked very predictable, didnt listen to corner who told him to work the body, so many thin air shots, chin up, and fought on back foot. on top of that he fought to chimbela pace and never tried to force the fight, actually looked clueless once chimbela upped the work rate. and he didnt look that good in first 6 either!
oh and his safety first approach to boxing he has adopted in last year or two cost him tonight, cost him huge! only has himself to blame. big thing for me is his corner told him after 6th or 7th to work the body and cant remember him landing anything or throwing much to body except for a hook in dying seconds of 12th. Too wound up maybe, to emotional fighting in front of home crowd ? possible, i do think he lets his emotions get better of him
Another fight ? No thanks that was shocking. I'm not sure Bellew is a main event fighter no excitment at all.
Id seriously doubt Sky would want a rematch and think Eddie Hearn would find it a hard sell too. Wouldnt be selling out the Echo with 7k if it was headline fight!
Must admit that was a pretty poor fight. Bellew was frustrating tonight, constantly taking too long and admiring his work.
