Tony Bellew - Hero to Villain?

Let's face it Bellew's gob has been writing cheques his body can't cash all his career. I thought he'd have enough for Chilemba though, not because I rate Bellew massively but because I couldn't see Chilemba damaging him. Bellew was always given a free pass on this forum as he posted here, which then turned people against Cleverly. Cleverly hasn't helped himself in that regard lately with his activity or lack of it under F*ank but Bellew's antics have always had a free pass.

Last night he seriously under delivered though. He didn't even go down fighting. When you're reading the morning papers and people are having another go at boxing because of Bellew's 'dying in the ring bollox' then he needs to back it up.

Hearn's face in the press conference afterwards said it all. How many fights has Bellew got left under contract or is the contract for a period of time? Either way Bellew's won't be getting renewed. In fairness to F*nk, he knew his limitations and thats why he fed him to Cleverly, and now Hearn will be looking to cut his losses if he's got any sense. Which he has by all accounts. Even the patience of Bellew's scouse following may be tested; was embarrassing at the end when Bellew went up on the ropes screaming 'I won that' to complete silence.

 

I dont know Bellew but i think he is dellusional who lives in his own wonderland who needs people to constantly pat him in the back and tell him how good he is

just read his twitter he says he rewatched the fight and he won it 7-5 in rounds

I love the im willing to die in the ring,big staredowns,fighting at press conferences but it aint backed up after in the ring so he looks a tit.

Bad clash of styles, still love to see bellew in with the likes of braehmer or murat.

A rematch would be much the same as last night, take it on the chin and move on. No more emotional over the top bollocks just get on with the fight. Thought he was superb in the Cleverly fight but clearly struggles with any kind of mover.

 

I'm still a big fan of Bellew. He's always a bit of a loud mouth pre fight but so is Haye and I like him regardless too. In general, I don't think they tend to cross the line and are not overly disrespectful. I have no problem with self confidence in a fighter and I'm surprised that people have changed their opinion on Bellew based off his behaviour this week, which has hardly been him acting out in any way.

I didn't think he won last night but comments taken in the heat of the moment straight after the fight are bound to be made in frustration so I wouldn't set too much store by them. By all accounts, he's apologised for his performance last night and that's more of a statement on the man and his honesty.

P.S Usa Rob making this thread, thinking it's confirmation of him being right about Bellew, smacks of arrogance and petulance in itself!

 

The whole "intense" persona during fight week is complete bull**** and he comes across as nothing more than an aggressive yob, which he pretty much showed himself up to be last night.
Its understandable a fighter will be tetchy in the week leading up to a fight and I was going to give him the benefit of doubt and put his antics down to being caught up in the hype and let it cloud his better judgement but if he is still mouthing off on Twitter (assuming he's watched the fight back aswell) then he really is a bell end.

 

I really like Tony and has always come across as a nice guy and this week has changed nothing for me. Sure he gets a bit revved up in fight week but he is not the first and won't be the last. I thought a draw was a fair result and can't really make a case for a Bellew victory, yes he lacked a bit of humility but its hardly a crime is it? As a Bellew fan I'm more disappointed in his failure to listen to the advice coming from his corner he allowed his emotions to take over, but he will come back from this, yes he was poor but he will learn and I would never write Tony off I think people need to cut him a bit of slack.

 

Brähmer would KO Bellew.
Brähmer is a level above Bellew. Much more skill, more power, higher work rate and a good chin! Former World Champion... No Brähme would not be good for Bellew...

 

his acted a complete **** before during and after this fight - if you listed all the **** he did this week you wouldnt believe it - ridiculous interviews, head butts, punch after the bell, forearm to the face, screaming at the silent crowd, whinging about bein the home fighter, actin a twat with chilemba in the interview after - ive probably missed some theres that many

 

I've got no time for Bellew, he spends too much time courting the media and talking about how he's going to clean up the division etc etc. Sadly his early promise has deteriorated into a safety first mentality and his attitude if things don't go his way is going to be his downfall.

Matthews v Crolla was top notch though

 

Bellew and Hatton are nothing like each other. Hatton has a cheekiness and humour that everyone can relate to. Bellew just acts like he is the **** of the North.

 

**** sake, so many drama queens. I have no problem with Bellew talking **** during the pressers, at the weigh in etc. - i expect to see this. There was a bit of afters from him at the end of one of the rounds - so what!

He is a very emotional guy, that is as plain as day and we have seen this many times after his fights. My opinion hasnt changed one bit, he is a very good fighter, fringe world class, a real character and good for the game. I just worry about if he is fighting at the right weight.

 

I weigh 90kg right now! Do you think if i restricted my diet, and when down to 75kg! I would be faster, and have more stamina etc...? Learn abit of the human body man.

I am not saying Bellew will dominate at CW, i am just stating the FACT! that he is weight drained, and a bad beat down or knock-out waiting to happen. He may well be beat down at CW, but at-least he can go out fighting!

I've been a fan of Tony Bellew for a while but I found his behaviour over the last week during the build up to be that of a tool.

I'm normally of the opinion that anything goes during a pre-fight build up (as long as there's respect after the fight) but it has to at least be in the structure of the pre-fight build up.

What I'm getting at in particular is the stare down at the final press conference. By all means stare in the man's eyes and show your intent but when the press ask you to face the cameras, don't ignore them like a moron and keep staring at him - the media are there to promote the fight FFS.

I mean, we've seen it many times were fighters over step the mark at stare-downs but at least with other fighters they know their responsibilities to pose for various photos etc.

The headbutt after the first round pissed me off also - totally out of order - the fight has already started - in fact he should have had a point deducted had the ref had any balls.

As for the fight, it was a total contrast from all of his pre-fight talk so in future he'd do well to keep his mouth shut and do his talking in the ring though I do feel he may have been genuinely surprised by Chilemba's amazing reflexes for a LHW.

I think a draw was a fair result in the end and neither fighter did enough to earn a shot at the WBC title so they should have a rematch and perhaps it may be a better fight this time round.

I think a good step for Tony Bellew is repair some of the damage from his reputation would be to accept a rematch on Chilemba's home soil, show some humility pre-fight and prove he's worthy of a shot at the WBC LHW title ny doing the business in the ring because as King Eddie said, he didn't show enough last night to earn that shot.
