Where do the fighters from Saturday night go next? Tony Bellew - Would like to see him step back to European level. Braehmer defends on April 27th, if he comes through he will likely vacate, so get Bellew in vs Vyochaslev Uzelkov or Dustin Dirks on the Froch undercard. Anthony Crolla - Would like to see him go back down to Super Featherweight. A full rematch with Gary Skyes would be good for the English title then push towards the British. Derry Matthews - Maybe try and get another crack at the Commonwealth or Gethin for the British. Rocky Fielding - A British title eliminator would be the next stop. Tobias Webb is the only other British fighter in contention. Perhaps they could tempt Tony Quigley out of retirement. Thoughts?
I think Bellew should have an immediate rematch. I agree with your ideas for both Matthews and Crulla.
Crolla for 130lbs or a Matthews rematch. Bellew, at knocking on 30 years old, may as well keep pushing forward. He's either good enough or he isn't. dropping down to Euro level after he's got a world ranking isn't going to achieve anything. Fielding should be looking at a Brit title shot.
Tony Bellew - Needs to fight on an undercard, possibly Froch and at Euro level - then defend it a couple of times. Anthony Crolla - Rematch with Derry please - failing that, back to Super feather and British title Derry Matthews - Crolla please! Rocky Fielding - Defend the English again, maybe 2 times, then British title
Boxrec have had Bellew-Ajisafe listed for the Froch undercard for a while. Whats that all about then?
I don't think age comes into it to much with Bellew. He didn't box until he was 16 I think, didn't turn pro until he was 24. Still only had 20 fights. I don't hes at a point where he cannot develop further. Dodson vs Smith for the British title, so Fielding needs to do something in the meantime.
Have we seen much improvement in Bellew over the last 12 months? I think he should capitalize of his world ranking and take stock from there. Otherwise he could be 32 years old, getting KO'd in a European title fight and be wondering "what if?" for the rest of his life.
Not saying Bellew would win a world title but he's not going to get a better chance if he waits around for 12-18 months. May as well take his shot now while the going is good.
Ajisafe was also on the undercard on Saturday. Got a feeling Hearn was worried about Chilemba pulling out and had him lined up. Bellew has been on here and said he won't be fighting Ajisafe on May 25th but its on the BBBofC website that the fight has been agreed. Perhaps it was set up in case Bellew lost.
tend to agree re. Bellew vs Dawson in the UK. I think had he won the Chilemba fight impressively they could have tempted Dawson over here in September and done the fight at Goodison Park. If he goes that route, he needs to just keep busy, wait to be named mandatory and hope HBO will buy his fight with Dawson so he can take home his $250k but I just can't see Bellew going for that. Whether its delusion or not you have to give him credit he backs himself as a fighter and i can't see him whoring himself out to Dawson as cannon fodder like Rees, Jenning, Lockett etc.
Bellew-Look for the Chilemba rematch or a fight with one of he lesser champions like Shumenov. Crolla- Matthews rematch or move back downto super-feather. Matthews- Trilogy with Crolla because let's be honest, how is he going to get a bigger fight then that? Fielding- no rush for Feidling, he's still only 25 and improving with each fight, one or two more defences of the English then look for a British title shot.
Bellew- Fight Andrzej Fonfara on the Froch undercard, get him in to work on a few things that certainly need improving if he is going to get back in world title mix Crolla- Rematch Matthews, or move to SFW but I think the Matthews fight brings more money to the table Matthews- Rematch Crolla only real option tbh Fielding- Get a decent fighter on the Burns undercard, no one in Britain can really test him that much apart from British title level and I don't think he should be moved there yet so get someone in foreign who is tough and can teach him a few things in the ring. Bit of Boxrec search Johannes Mwetupunga ( http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=446472&cat=boxer ) would fit the bill
