(inspired by a post I saw in another thread) Is it not at least somewhat surprising that in a violent sport there are lots of top fighters who are not "alpha males" or who at least are not amongst the alphas of the alphas? Rating "alpha"-ness according to this scale: AA - alpha alpha (top dog amongst top dogs) AB - alpha beta (just behind the top dog amongst the top dogs) BA - beta alpha (top dog amongst the beta males) BB - beta beta (just behind the top dog amongst the beta males) More likely to be BA than AB: Donaire Bradley? Some AA: Hopkins Vitali Klitschko? An AB: Mayweather? A BA or a BB: Dawson? How would you rate Martinez or Marquez? AA and AB? Am I onto something here or not? Was Mike Tyson, for example, an AA or did he just seem to be one? :good
You think so? I would say the following would count against him being alpha:- 1. he feels the need to be overly-aggressive, because he isn't naturally super-dominant; he is a bully 2. he lacks self-control quite a bit of the time 3. he has emotional issues that he has struggled with and that have led him to make many bad choices 4. he has ambivalent relationships with people who are very close to him (he both needs their love and he rejects it - .e.g. his father) 5. he feels a very great need for validation by status symbols, especially superficial ones (e.g. not the highest self-esteem in the world) 6. he has significant status-anxiety (he HAS to be the best of all time, he has to keep that 0, etc.) 7. he is a perfectionist because he is afraid of failure In my view, Mayweather has many great traits, but he is more of a talented, driven, ambitious hard-working perfectionist than an alpha-male.
Not meant to be a Pac vs May thread, but in my view, Pac is clearly more alpha than May. That doesn't mean Pac is or was the better fighter.
In nature, alpha males are often incredibly paranoid and self conscious. Thats why they are constantly fighting to prove themselves and force their dominance, making sure everyone knows who is top dog. Mayweather is an alpha male.
Paranoid and particularly self-conscious animals can NEVER become top dog because these are clear signs of low self-esteem and fear of inability to cope, because ''they don't measure up". Such individuals seek the approval of their superiors. Probably not even beta. More likely to be gamma.
You know I don't view Mayweather as a alpha male if he didn't have his money, look how he went out when he met the ultimate Alpha Male J.Prince. In Texas Pimp C told the street rappers what to do who in turn told the fans what was cool, the only person Pimp bowed down to was Prince. When Prince got into it with Floyd, Floyd was getting ran. Alpha males also don't cry after 20 days in county jail, if you knew a guy like Mayweather you would consider him a money mark. By the way I'm convinced Floyd has detailed files about every possible threat. It is funny when *****s act gangsta on here but they hero can't do time.
Doesn't Mayweather's impulsivity let him down quite a bit more than one would expect for someone who is supposed to be super-composed? I agree!:good
