He will keep on trucking until that chin breaks, and then that will be that.

Short but glorious career at the top level. Bad guy opponent for up and comers thereafter.

There's not that much to fix. You're all acting like he's on a downward spiral. He's just lost to a guy who, only two fights ago, was the favourite by many on here to beat him! That's right, most of you are already forgetting that Rios was being pegged to lose to Alvarado the first time. We can be really fickle, sometimes.

As Bogotazo has said, he is improving. Probably needs to sort his head movement out, but he'll still give any boxer in his division a tough night.

What's wrong with being a pressure fighter? Polishing a few things can go a long way, and he's shown a capacity to avoid punishment when he needs to. Those are the things he should focus on to do better. He'll always be a fighter in the ring, that's not a problem. Being offensive is a style, not a bad habit.

Thank you. Mofo loses a competitive decision and people act like he's a shot fighter and needs to quit boxing because he's not slick and black. That's becoming the standard around here, sometimes implicitly and sometimes overtly.

His jab is one of the most overlooked/under rated punches in the game. It's a hard jab that inflicts damage. Unfortunately, he doesn't use it enough. Nor does he utilize a "range finder" jab, something a little less hard would still make an opponent set for a second to block it.

he could stop goofing off all the time and stop smiling like a ****** everytime he gets hit. he needs to act more serious. how the hell garcia lets him get away with that crap is beyond me. he could move his head more, work on more feints, more body shots, stop relying on outside brawling and concentrate on fighting on the inside. he is a beast when he fights inside and takes less shots there. he needs to practice defense against counter punching.

Assuming he doesn't change his style too much, his inside fighting is amazing (not surprising considering he was trained by Garcia), however he can definitely slip and counter while coming in. He would push Alvarado to the ropes or the corner and alvardo would simply step up to him with a stiff jab and move out from the side. Something like a face-first slip and counter like JCC sr used to do.

Using that jab on the outside and a few faints would make him a little less predictable and add more to his arsenal. He basically left his jab and pressure slip and counter after round 2

Also not needing to drop 21 pounds before weigh in might help a little

The reason he stopped throwing the Jab against Mike was because of those counter right hands. Note how in the tenth or eleventh round his jab comes back for a bit, then Mike lands a hard right hand then the jab goes away again.

jab as he comes in, instead of simply stepping forward winging power punches.
and for a pressure fighter, bam-bam should go to the body more, could have slowed down mike enough to clip him late.

If he could have fixed all the weight gain between fights to where he could have stayed at the lower divisions to outweigh dudes by a bunch and beast on them.

If he sticks with Heredia his conditioning should improve. I didn't expect for their teamwork to take effect overnight. It'll take some time. His power is not as effective as it was at 135. He did KO Alvarado in the first fight but it took a ton of flush shots to get the knock out. Needs to listen to Garcia's instructions. He appeared to be lost in his own world at some point in the fight. Let's see what happens in the rubber match. If Alvarado outboxes him again then there's really no hope for Rios if or when he fights a guy who utilizes movement effectively. But I have a feeling Rios wasn't at his absolute best in the 2nd fight. Of course a lot of that had to what Mike did; I just think Rios was going in the 2nd fight feeling like he can rely more on one punch power than skill. Bad move.

fight ortiz then become a stepping stone for the rest of the up and comers. He probably lost to many brain cells in the Alvarado fight.

    U can't cuz he's a ******...

Best case scenario, teach him better defense, especially in the head movement department... Otherwise, he is what he's ever gonna be

One thing I don't agree on, and I see it often on ESB. Movement will give anyone trouble. Just because a boxer can't catch someone who is moving shouldn't be viewed as the boxer being out-boxed. I mean, what is he supposed to do? Run face first into him and risk getting knocked out?

Anyhow, I place the blame solely on Roberto Garcia. I have yet to see any of his boxers cut off the ring properly. Can't these trainers get some clips of Julio Cesar Chavez and learn how to cut off the ring? Seems like most American trainers don't know how to teach that, and they don't know how to teach defense. Right now, I can't name one boxer who has head movement and waist movement, let alone parrying punches.

Anyhow, Rios isn't too far from tweaking a few things that could ultimately help him become a better fighter (and this is where the second quote comes in). Garcia needs to tell Rios to shut up and learn. He needs him to settle down and follow the game plan. He also needs to teach Rios some defense because if he doesn't, he's going to be like Freddy Roach (no offense meant) in a matter of years.

He's already transitioning to a punching bag. It only gets worse from here. People need to learn to spot digression as it happens.
