**** man... how can you guys know so little about MMA? Silva isn't 'trying' boxing. He probably trains and spars several times/week with pro trainers and has for years. All top MMA guys have extensive and ongoing boxing training.

Does that mean they can hang with champion level boxers? **** no. They can box for real though, they're not just chumps who wandered into the ring.

Boxers have more chance in UFC than UFC fighters have in boxing
Not all UFC fighters go for takedowns and a boxer could still land a good punch
UFC fighters cant do **** in the ring with a boxer

Sure, lightning can strike anytime but it's extremely unlikely. About the same likelyhood as an MMA guy landing a lucky punch in a boxing ring against a really excellent boxer. Quite a few MMA fighters have an actual boxing career on the side.

Most of them don't do it with an eye towards becoming a champion, although I'm sure they'd pursue that if it headed that way. They do it to keep their striking sharp, help with footwork, etc.

Ring boxing and cage boxing are very different, tiny gloves = lights out from what would be considered a light punch with boxing gloves on. I'm a huge fan of boxing, not so much of MMA, but I've trained BJJ and by extension MMA off and on for years. I know what those guys can do, and I know how boxing works and doesn't work against a grappler. Boxing works in the cage about as well as wrestling does in the ring. The skills just aren't 100% applicable when standing and they're completely useless on the ground. Kinda like learning Spanish and trying to read French. You can kinda sorta do it but not really.

He did well in his boxing matches? He got stopped in his pro debut. :patsch

And actually there's not much difference in power between punching with a boxing glove and punching with a MMA glove.

Cry like a *****? Have some respect, you're talking about a professional fighter. And anything can happen in a street fight.

There's a universe of difference between getting hit with an MMA glove and getting hit with a boxing glove. Stupid to even discuss it like that's something that has to be considered and I'm not going to. Or maybe YOU could take getting hit 600-900 times and still be standing up with a practically bare fist. Nobody else in the world can so I imagine you're pretty famous and just posting here in disguise.

Re Silvia, like I said, lightning can strike. Lightning was helped in this case by Tim being an ******* and thinking he was going to prove that he could stand and bang with Mercer. Everyone except Tim already knew he couldn't. James Toney would have hammered Randy Couture like a child if Randy would have been that stupid, but he wasn't. Neither is any other fighter. Tim is a special kind of stupid.

lol wondered when this would find its way in here

FTR, of course Anderson would beat him. Hes got 50-60lbs on him, a granite chin, and Ward is feather fisted. Anderson would just walk through him like a Margarito steamroller
