I can't remember seeing Garcia in that Road to Rigondeaux-Donaire HBO production. Was he at the pressers?

Garcia is not really his trainer, just a front man

Garcia is there to claim the awards like Trainer of the Year after Nonito wins his fights

He trains Donaire the last month or weeks before the fight because he lives in Oxnard and Donaire lives in Bay Area. After the Rios fight he flew to Bay Area the next day and will train Donaire hard for these last 2 weeks.

Yeah, it is kind of a strange relationship. I guess Donaire just needs 'a little guidance' from the sounds of it. Now, how much they communicate about what they see on films, etc, while apart is anyone's guess. It works for them so that is all that counts.

The people who train Donaire for the majority of his camp should get credit. i don't even know who they are.

As others have said, their relationship is akin to Roach's relationship with Wayne McCoullough, in that Donaire spends most of his time training with other guys, with Garcia only coming in the last few weeks.

It seems to work very well, because Garcia is low key, and knows his role, which is largely restricted to offering tips and fine tuning. Donaire is a very high strung guy, and this approach appeals to him after the miserable years he spent being constantly criticized and bullied by his father. Donaire is smart and talented enough that he can largely train himself, although its clear that Garcia's vast knowledge comes in handy.

When you're the trainer of a Top 10 P4P Boxer you have no choice but to be in front of cameras.

I didn't mean this as a slam on Garcia. It just meant that his other trainers don't seem to want the notoriety for whatever reason. Garcia is still low key. For the most part he seems to stand back, pre-fight especially, when people like the Twatson Twins would be tripping over each other for camera time.
