Frazier was basically shot but I wonder how he would have fared against Foreman if he had a right hand, Foreman breathing heavy in the 5th 5"6 Dwight Qwawi also old, lands plenty of right hands (too bad he was not a puncher We know the Lyle story but when did Lyle ever show us he was an explosive puncher I love Big George as a fighter and a person but he was pretty easy to nail with the right. Thoughts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHDZhLdzGtk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NmvPRP6NlA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8AVcEyyMco
Foreman was not so wonderful against shorter guys 5"11 Everit Martin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzhqpeSUBVI
These R Y I pick McCall 2 beat him prime vs prime . McCall might have lost rds and maybe sometimes fights in n a matter that did not tell much about anything , but when he won it was usually big in a telling way .
Was a classic move but other than entertaining portion he was completely dominated. Way way way too small.
Never really showed elite power, Shavers winded like usual and Foreman fought someone who wanted to win but if you look at Lyle's record when he moved in class most of his wins went the distance and Quarry handled him pretty easily
George could be hit with right hands. The problem is or was that it put the other guy in range to get hit by George's punches. And Foreman will go tit for tat and exchange with anybody. Then it becomes a question of effectiveness of right hands landed. Chuvalo tried that trading thing with a young George and how many other fighters absorb what George threw and landed on that guy? The thing with George is the opponent needs to land 1 right hand and position himself for the Foreman response in a nanosecond--the way Ali and Young did. They sure didn't stand around waiting for the receipt, did they? A guy simply has to fight very very smart against Foreman and cannot make mistakes. A guy like Joe Louis and that deadly accuracy of that non-telegraphed right hand of his is a big problem for Foreman. But the Joe Louis type's don't exactly grow on trees. But you wouldn't exactly want to see George landing his right hand first on Joe and seeing him absorb it, either. Or how about imagining Rocky landing his Suzie Q as he comes up and over Foreman's hands? The way Marciano came out of that crouch and landed that nice right hand of his is beautiful. Not a punch a guy wants to eat flush and George is right there to get hit with it. But it kind of takes that skillset to pull it off against a Foreman. A right hand like say the one Coetzee threw just isn't going to get it done. It'd take a precision shot by the elite's, I think anyway.
Yes his defense isn't great but if you were in front of him to land the right hand, you were also there to be hit yourself and his punches were fast, rangy and often short so even if you beat him to the punch you'd likely take a punch back. Someone like Lewis who is more skilled with more range and faster hands could take advantage of his defensive flaws as could someone as strong and beastly as Bowe. A speedy boxer with movement could too like Ali and Holmes. Other guys who are there to be hit are unlikely to get the better of it. Marciano has a great right hand but he'd eat shots trying to land it that he couldn't afford too. A toss up is Joe Louis, Louis is technically better with quicker hands, but very hittable himself, Foreman for me is a better punching machine than Louis, the pace he works at is more intense than Louis too and he's bigger, rangier and stronger.
It funny because people think George could always beat the Frazier type, and they have a point because Frazier really only had one hand to watch like Cooney the left hook but a 2 fisted puncher with a good right spells trouble for Big George because he got hit with rights also some shorter guys had success to a point with George, 5"6 Qwawi (who was never a top Heavyweight) and Big Foot, had it been a hard punching fighter with a right hand an elite we could see a KO loss for Big G
Underrated non-giver of ****s. If you needed one, you'd best try your luck with someone else. I think George himself may even have had a laugh at that.
You pick Mcall against everyone Mcall lost to Frank Bruno, Bruno is more notorious for gassing than big george
I did not predict 4man 2 gas vs McCall, only 2 eat a right hand or more, and McCall was no Ali or Jimmy Young in terms of right hand. And I do not pick McCall against every1. He could lose competitive decisions in his very off nights, but when he was on, he was d ultim8 SHW's interceptor.
Mcalls right hands suck dick His whole claim to fame was koing Lewis, that shine was taken away when rahman also repeated the feat with the same right hand. Mcall has neither the skill, style nor brains of an Ali or Young, to beat Foreman
every1's does. Tyson's right hand sucks dick 2. McCall stopped a 29 years old Lewis, Rahman KOd a 36 years old Lewis, and still managed 2 get KOBY him in d rematch. They had another mutual opponent, Maskaev, Rahman's 2 times owner, whom McCall walked right in2 and destroyed in 1. McCall also outpointed some guy, Jesus Fergusson, whom outpointed another guy whom outpointed McCall and KOd Tyson. And while I think lowly of Bruce Seldon and Francesco Damiani and will not argue 4 their quality, which I belief that was absent, I know that others consider them quality fighters. Do u know what McCall did 2 them? And in a way McCall did better than your poster boy vs Douglas, Lewis and I wish I could c him vs Tucker, b/c that may just b another robbery, and vs Norris. McCall also beat Lance Whitaker, a much bigger man and 7 yrs his junior while more that a decade past his prime, and KOd Henry Akinwande, whom was only stopped by McCall in his entire under8ed and quite successful career. Which is Y he would not have needed d clim8 2beat 4man more decisively than Young, or both d cheating + clim8 which Ali needed so desper8ly.
