He got $300k for a four rounder, I think he has a great future. Plenty of readies to be made off the back of his two olympic golds, plus he is the poster boy of Chinese pro boxing.

He'll be treated like Chavez Jr. was. Arum will match him up against weak competition, win a few regional titles, then fight for a vacant world strap. Which he'll defend against nobodies with shiny records.

And should one of those "challenges" end up winning... they'll rob him. Bob Arum and Macau aren't letting their cash cow be slaughtered.

I think they said on the telecast that Shiming says he can win the title in a year

if thats all he has to offer he would get dusted by Estrada

I saw a gold medalist with all kinds of defensive liabilities and no jab

I think he has a TV friendly and crowd pleasing but unorthodox style but isnt top caliber like many Gold Medalists even at their debut

now maybe i am wrong but this could also be the case of a multi fight pro whose tough and determined gives the overwhelming favorite a tough fight based on will to look good and make his mark

Im glad that young kid got a chance to be in a big fight and get his name out there, i wonder if down the road in 5 or 6 years if we will ever see him on HBO again

Still can't get my head around that, g. That a promoter 'n HBO would have the balls to make a four-rounder the main event is mind-numbing.

One of the things I wondered about is the HBO crew said Larry Merchant, after a short commercial break, would be back to do a post-fight interview with Zou Shiming.

But it didn't happen, 'n my first thought was: HBO got cold feet, knowing Merchant's take-no-prisoners style,'n pulled the plug.

Larry did do an interview post fight that was heard in the arena, his wife translated. It was all good, although I was a little drunk at this point.

Personally, I was a little underwhelmed with the attendance it was around half full, they didn't open the top tier despite selling tickets for about 7 UK pounds! Not bad for a debut I suppose.

I think Bob will be a little worried what he is hearing from Roach - he is being taught to body punch now, he has little-to-no pop, had never seen a speedball etc. 12 months to a title is extremely optimistic. He'll be on the Pacquaio undercard in Sept and I think he'll fight in the USA inbetween.

Sounds ignorant but boxing does not matter in china. He needs to get over to the US.

It does sound ignorant. Who could make 300k for a 4 rounder in the US? Nobody. Particularly some tiny Asian with no power and an ugly style.

He needs to stay right where he is, because boxing will become big in China just because he's a boxer. 1.4 billion people, and many of them will pay to watch a Chinese athlete just because he's Chinese.

    ******ed statement.

John has defended his title away from home more times than any other current champion, he's also defended his title in more countries than any other current champion.
