Best fights ever

    My 3 favourite fights of all time.

    1. Calaghe V Lacy. Joe taking bertie big bollox to school for 12 rounds, absolute quality

    2. Barrera V Hamed. The Mexican teaching Hamed a lesson for mugging people off and having no respect for anyone. Hamed looked like a little boy.

    3. Collins v Eubank. I thought Eubank was the best of the lot but Collins beating him was a monumental moment in british boxing.

    Moore vs Macklin deserves an honourable mention for best British fight. I'd say any of Nigel Benn's fights with Eubank or McClellan would be the best though.

    One set of fights I've always felt was overrated were the Ward vs Gatti trilogy fights. All were very good fights, especially the first one, but I think people don't half jump the gun saying it was the best rivalry ever and the fights were legendary. No major titles were ever on the line and I've seen fights that were more brutal.

    Again, all the fights were great and could be called classics but people overrate them a bit just because Micky Ward got his own Hollywood film and because Gatti sadly died.

    'Best fights' is also quite subjective because there are certain styles or certain fighters that appeal to you which will improve your perceptions of the actual contest. Wheres people who are not fans of the participants or the style on display will not automatically like or appreciate the fight as much as those that do. I would nominate - based on a mixture of entertainment value, historical significance, and skill-level - Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor as being the best fight ever, it's certainly my personal favourite.

    Oscar De La Hoya vs. Fernando Vargas
