Underrated Bobby Sinn would have been a great fight for Elley too. They were good friends, i assume thats why they never fought. Sinn gave Carruthers an extremely tough night, taking every thing Carruthers dished out and giving it back. Carruthers was still world champion at the time.

Jerry Jerome mightn't of been the greatest Aboriginal fighter, but he was the first to win an Australian Title, and did it at age 38, which was unheard of in 1912. He opened the way for Aboriginal fighters in Australia, and it's unfortunate that he rarely gets recognised, especially considering the social and legal obstacles he faced, and also Aboriginals in Queensland were still getting shot in the bush in this era.
I dont really know alot about the politics at the time but i can only imagine. But to look at what he achieved and when he did it is very impressive, his record is a bit decieving in that way. It would be interesting to find out where he learned to fight, from my understanding he didnt have any "formal" training before he turned pro in Qld. Im sure he also fought a draw with Sam Langford which doesnt seem to be on boxrec for some reason. Can you recommend any reading on Jerome at all?
