Hard work and dedication....I don't get it.

Here's the thing though, there are a bunch of athletes that don't put in the work. It doesn't matter how much time you have, if you don't truly love your craft, you're not going to put in maximum effort. I got to work and I exercise everyday. The work out regimine that I maintain entails a lot more than the average person. Even still, it pales in comparison to what a lot of these top level, dedicated athletes do. I think it's natural to appreciate anyone who puts 100% effort into their craft. A lot of people don't do so.

you have to compare iron mike to razor ruddick. in boxing, the top guys are those who out work each other. if you like at success, you have floyd mayweather and james toney. the difference here is work ethic. if tony had floyd's work ethic he would be number 1 atg.

as boxing fans, we admire those who strive to be the best.

I admire fighters' ability, heart and courage more than hard work. I appreciate their hard work but no more than the average person who works hard. When a fighter gets a certain degree of fame they usually end up with the option to retire in the their thirties (or even twenties). How many normal people can retire before they even hit 40? How hard does Lennox Lewis work these days? He probably doesn't even get out of bed before lunch time, and he isn't even middle aged

 

I don't get why you don't understand that everyone is different. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. If someone wants to admire an athlete, what's it to you? There's no need to do a lot of things we do. But in life, it's good to do things not just because we need to do them, but because we want to do them. I'm not a religious person. I don't go to church, I'm not about to worship an entity that I don't even believe exists. However, I'm not about to knock someone that does. That's their thing.

 

I think here is the disonnect. That's the thing, many people admire average people that work hard as well. However, Bob in accounting who busts his tail is not a public figure. The people at his job know about his dedication and admire it. Obviously, someone who doesn't work at that office will have no idea about that man's hard work. Just because someone admires an athlete that works hard doesn't mean that they don't admire a working man that works hard. I tip my hat to these athletes that put in the work. At the same time, I tip my hat to anyone I see that works hard.

That is just ignorant. Mayweather would NEVER be a top chess player in ANY walk of life. That statement alone shows how little you know about chess.
