Since I am an amateur would it be better to watch the top olympians fight in order to get tips on how to fight under amateur rules. Or is it better to watch the pros?

They're changing Olympic rules. Professional scoring and no head guards.

Don't think they're changing the amateurs though.

Do you think it would be as beneficial to watch the amateurs?

    Absolutely, I do it.

Watching pros is good for learning proper technique. But watching amateurs is good for seeing how to deal with the awkward styles and improper form that you are more likely going to encounter. You can learn from watching any fight in my opinion.

I rarely watch amateurs, its a waste of time. Good to learn how its scored/rules but for technique you gotta watch the pros...its their job lol

I think regardless watching amateur fights is important. Most likely most of us watching tape are not seasoned pros and so it is beneficial to watch people who are closer to your skill level. You can pick up on common mistakes and see what works for people as well as how styles develop.

As far as amateur rule changes, scoring will be changed across the board from local to national to a 10 point system like Pro-scoring. However the ban of headgear will only be for National Mens Elite.

I watch any fighting vids; street, amateur, pro, mma, etc. My big interest is time. In certain parts of the vid I'll go frame by frame analyzing their time and what they did right or wrong to take advantage of time.

Still, that only goes so far because then you actually have to try it yourself and video yourself to get more knowledge yet.
