Was Lennox Lewis greater than Larry Holmes?

No it's not a crock of ****. Manny said one thing and then took it back when Lewis started to throw a temper tantrum. Manny said it once and that's that so not really a crock of ****.

And anyway,the fight was meaningless. Prime Lewis couldnt stop old ass Holyfield? James Toney even stopped that version of Holyfield.

Well since they fought 24 rounds, let's watch 24 rounds.

Here's the first fight. I don't have time to watch it now, but I will over the next day or so. After that, Lewis-Holyfield II, then Lewis - Mercer.

Yea it was, in that it should never have taken place. The only reason it did was the travesty of a decision in the original bout where Lennox won nine or ten rounds.

In between were three bouts with Ruiz and a bout with Byrd, and the man went from 37 to 41.

Yeah, Lewis got a gift decision in the US with all American judges... Right.

Ron Borges is one of the biggest Lewis haters of all time. He has no credibility on the subject of Lewis.

And so what if he got booed in the US? He just beat an American fighter... why wouldn't he get booed?

As for Holyfield winning either fight atsch YDKSAB if you think that.

I watched the Lewis Mercer fight... it was a total inside brawl, and I was amazed Lewis didn't use his advantages like he normally did in fights, but he was the classier operator and did enough to win the fight.

 

Larry Holmes got hit square on the chin by one of the hardest punchers in HW history, Ernie Shavers. It looked like the fight was over but somehow he got up and won a decision. LL does not come close to Larry Holmes. LL got KTFO by Hasim Rahmen, a B-level fighter.

 

Holmes = more skilled

Lewis = better resume

 

I think the way Lewis fought Mercer was partially based on the ring size. It was a relatively small ring.

 

Well Sugar Nick, I watched the first fight, scored it 9-3 for Lewis. Unless you were a judge it was a very easy fight to score, and it wasn't particularly close. Ledderman had it the same, and punches landed were 348-138 in favor of Lewis. The only close rounds in the fight were 9 & 10 both of which I gave to Holyfield.

Anyone else what to give their assessment of the fight. It wasn't Lewis at his overwhelming best, but he certainly dominated all aspects of the fight. Holyfield though was very lethargic and his punch output was abysmal.

 

Sorry but Lewis' two KO loses to McCall and Rahman make it hard for me to rate him over Holmes. Add to that Holmes' competitiveness while in his 40s and I think it becomes clear who should be ranked higher...

 

I'm pretty much on the fence as to who should be rated higher, I just don't want people rating one fighter higher than using a bunch of bull **** to justify it.

In terms of H2H I would put both in the top 5 ATG's. In terms of careers I would say Lewis fought better comp, and Holmes had more title defenses. I don't consider Holmes' comp anywhere near as good as Lewis's.

 

Styles make fights. Lewis beats Holmes 9 times out of 10. Next question?

Style-wise, Holmes is ALL wrong for Lennox. A guy with a laser ramrod jab, excellent defense, a good hard quick right hand, one of the best chins the division has ever seen and isn't afraid to go to war gives Lennox all he can handle and them some. People seem to forget Lewis had problems with guys who knew how to BOX and had the tools to make it work. See the Bruno and Mercer fights.
