Groves-manfredo!!!

  1. Boxing news says

Meanwhile,Peter manfredo who lost in Wales to Joe calzaghe in 2007,was in the frame to fight george groves on the London bill but is unlikely to accept the assignment.former WBA ruler and Kessler victim dimitri sartison could be in the running to face groves

Anything I was told is just pub talk and not legit, but that sounds like he was clearly in the running

Groves is a hypejob. The next Price.
    He's going nowhere.

  4. To say people buy for the headline so the undercard don't matter is so frustrating

You should work for k2 promotions
It's this kind of attitude that sidelines boxing

Here's a novelty have two world title fights or like in America three or four
Ash but we can't afford it,they all say
Well it should be financed another way then

Am I right that haye Harrison had no televised undercard
    ****ing appalling
But hatton senchenko the last pay per view had an excellent undercard that was well received, quiggs reputation spread overnight to a world audience
But first and foremost the paying punters at the O2,who are the future audience for mr hearn

Magee would be a great opponent. He may be old and slow but he's had some big fights and is very experienced. If George beat him we could compare it to Froch and more recently Kessler's wins against him to see where about Groves is in terms of levels.

I'm sure Magee would take the fight if he's fit enough, he's fought all over the world for peanuts more or less and isn't arsed about it. If he were to beat Groves it would put him back in the title picture and set up a few pay days.

Win-win fight that would be in my opinion, hopefully Matchroom try and get it made. If it's Manfredo then I won't even watch. Groves is proving nothing by beating up bus drivers and ex reality TV stars.

Not sure where you got Magee was fighting for peanuts from. He was pretty handsomley paid for his last few fights.

  8. I doubt he was handsomely paid to go to costa rica

Yes but Bute would have been a payday and he Makkeson & Kessler were voluntary defences.

Was he? I'm sure he got a decent cheque for the Kessler fight because it was a big event in Denmark. Before that though he fought in Costa Rica and in low-key events in Denmark defending that mickey mouse interim belt, surely he didn't get much for that? Or at least not as much as he'd get for fighting Groves as chief support on a PPV show.

Magee got paid around £130k when he won the vacant European title against Mads Larssen.

That's more than many fighters get for World Title defences.

I really don't have a problem with it. At the end of the day, he's planning on fighting for a title in the fight after this one, potentially. Also, take this into consideration.. If he does fight Manfredo, it won't be for the purpose of just fighting him because it would be an easy win as such, but more so because it would most likely benefit him, and Booth probably sees that. Manfredo, even with his loss vs Chaves, did well and clearly showed that he can apply pressure, similar to what Steiglitz may do to Groves if they fight.

People need to stop being so harsh. If he's chosen, it's for a reason. It's not like he's on some continuous run of nobodies and not planning to elevate himself to a higher level. This should help him and give him that extra bit of experience by going in with a savvy old pro like Manfredo.
