Diaz Vs Thomson is a very interesting matchup. Josh looked ace against Gil' last time out IMO. Nate is Nate. It will be a war. Not buying into this 'new Frank Mir' bull****. Cormier is gonna bash Mir up quickly IMO. Bendo to beat Melendez by clear decision in a competitive fight.
I like Melendez at the current odds. It all depends on the pace Benson fights at. The pace against Edgar in the second fight will see Gil landing the cleaner shots. But the pace he fought Diaz will have Gil sucking air and Benson clearly winning the last three rounds. Close to a even fight. Don't believe the odds makers.
Is Urijah Faber better off in Bellator? Rob Floyd, what do the champions in Bellator make per fight? I know they get tied into horrendous contracts but I'm unware of what the very top fighters earn. Faber has done all he can in a stacked division, Barao and Cruz have both beaten him as well as Aldo, if he stays in the UFC he eventually loses to a younger sharper more hungrier guy looking to replace old with new! Why not light up the Bellator screens even back at 145 and earn good money doing so! Curran vs Faber What is the rumours about the "NEW" Frank Mir, is this in response to his stint in Jacksons MMA? Benson Henderson TKO Gil Melendez 1 - You heard it here first.
Curran Vs Faber is a great matchup, but considering Faber's hittability in his last few fights Curran might well spark him. Bull**** though, that is a great matchup of 3 dimensional fighters that can transition seamlessly between their games. Both men rely on counter shots, Faber's right hand over the jab while Curran's bread and butter is the left hand but he's a more multi faceted striker IMO. Faber's ground game is nasty. Curran is a beast but Faber showed against Menjivar and Jorgenson he's still one of the craftiest in the game in this respect. Faber probably makes good enough money that he can stay with his team mates in the consensus top org'. He can have a good matchup with Pickett next and get another title fight while Cruz is still out. When Cruz comes back it would only take a small streak for Zuffa to book the rubber match between him and Faber. Personally I would like to see a glorified exhibition at say, 140 between Faber and Frankie Edgar. There is always the small possibility, and it's small I know, that if Benavidez doesn't beat Mighty Mouse second time round (maybe he even loses this weekend, sick fight by the way) that Faber squeezes down to 125? K-Flo stylee? Faber has loads going on. When there's a fighter who can beat all the contenders but not the champ' he' the perfect policeman. Someone beats him convincingly and UFC have a ready made legit' contender. He keeps winning and they have a popular veteran winning exciting fights, made for TV. I really don't see the problem. If he can't quite beat the very best in the World, why go somewhere he might be able to beat, Curran aside, lesser regarded fighters then he's already beating well? Faber wants that UFC gold. Don't think he'd settle for another org's gold now, he's done all that before. Yeah, the usual spiel. Afterwards it'll be 'I haven't been motivated for a while' or whatnot. Cormier SMASH! Can't see that at all, but I see Bendo winning handily. Gil' is a quality fighter, but I don't think he's the best 155lber in the World and never have, regardless of how much it's been said over the years.
This is all very fair, I dont think Faber beats Cruz or Barao, 125 cannot be possible surely, he looks about 155 on the night at the moment! I think it may be time for Faber to start thinking about risk against reward, I personally would rather see him back at 145 fighting in Bellator, than him fighting at 135 in the UFC and never being a champion. Thats just my personal take on it, if Faber can earn the same $$ for knocking over lesser guys on the way to that fight with Curran then why not. Faber vs Pickett is a really good fight however.
I personally do not think Gilbert Melendez is a LW, Ive been saying for some time this guy is a FW, Benson Henderson is not the guy you wanna be facing when your body doesn't belong at a certain weight class. This coupled with a host of things brings me to the conclusion he's getting blitzed and I'll be having a little punt on it.
If Mir makes it out of the first round I'll be amazed What I like about Cormier is his desire to cause damage, he's a dangerous dangerous man and I'm still baffled why Mir took it!
