I called Rigo to beat Donaire after I heard that Nonito was having trouble making weight (Had it as a toss up prior).

Anyway, the thing that is obvious but can easily be forgotten is in any competition, but especially combat sports, is preparation.

A lot of doubters knocked Rigo b/c he had hundreds of amateur bouts but only 11 pro fights. When his success in the amateurs are brought up, it often gets slightly respected but brushed off. Consistent success isn't a coincidence.
I have respect for Robert Garcia and his accomplishments, however, his last 2 fighters have not been well prepared (Rios & now Nonito) for their recent bouts. The best fighter in the sport (Floyd Mayweather) continues to perform and dominate b/c his preparation.(amongst other elites athletes) is always on point.

It was a good fight. Congrats to Rigo and hopefully Nonito learned his lesson. Preparation is the first key to battle.

NoKneeToe needs to stop depending on that left hook and learn how to box more.

I wouldn't even count Garcia as his trainer. Just a guy who shows up on fight night and takes credit for anything positive. He wasn't with Donaire until 2 weeks ago.

Don't know what you mean but I called Rigo a couple days ago b/c I knew he was more focused. That's no excuse. He definitely got outboxed, actually easily, but a focused Nonito would have made it more competitive.

True, but most top trainers, with a stable of fighters, occasionally have their fighters training camps overlook each other. Nonito is a professional, should have been prepared.

    They already are.

Rigo dictated the pace throughout just about the entire fight, bar the 10th round and couple of other moments Donaire had. Nonito just didn't press the fight the way he should have.

Rigo won, deal with it. :deal Looking forward to the eventual rematch though.

I think it's a case of repetitious practice combined with boxing knowledge vs. athleticism combined with boxing knowledge.

Rigo was training 5hrs a day since he was 5. The muscle memory and skill are going to be on a totally different level. Most fighters don't reach that level of dedication, and only come close once they're in title contention. He's a machine.

Donaire trains hard but he hasn't been at it as long as Rigondeaux.

But Donaire did look unprepared. It was like he had no idea what Rigo would bring and was shocked at what was in front of him (as I believe any fighter will be). Also possibly a bit weight-drained.

I think Donaire didn't know what he was in for tonight. Probably thought "Oh this guy has fought much lesser competition and THEY have knocked him down. I could probably easily KO him."

But I think Rigo made adjustments knowing his opponents level was much greater than what he was used to.
