    Dude, first of all it varies by commission. :patsch Since when does boxing have globally codified rules for this sort of thing?

    Besides, they always include the round it's stopped in the scoring no matter what the minimum cut-off # is to go to scorecards.

    So in this case if they consulted the cards, it would be 29-28 John (or 30-27, or 29-28 or 30-27 Hosono, whatever)

    The worst parts of this are (1) we were denied a good fight that we all worked hard to be able to watch, and (2) since John fights only twice per year, we'll most likely go a full year in between meaningful John fights.

    That is by no means a stupid question.

    It must have been optional. Vetyeka was ranked #27 by the IBO as of a few days ago.
