I agree as far as tallent, but I think Ward will do more to close the show. Also, Ward would know that he was outclassed athletically, and do what he had to do to bring the fight to Rigo. But ****... It's a very fine line to seperate the two. Rigo's natural tallent and ability is amazing. Next level. I think Rigo has the most potential. We can only make assumptions about what Ward would do and what Rigo tends not to do. Just like we made assumptions that Rigo's chin was not that good, when it turns out it's not bad at all.
physicly: rigo more athletic, natural faster and his punches are more crisp and stronger than those of ward technic: rigo's ring IQ is arguably #1 in the world, maybe only second to floyd, but higher than ward's, although close, because ward himself is a master technician reflex: rigo all day > ward so, there you have it in every departmant rigo tops ward
Floyd does not have the highest Ring IQ. That is Hopkins. And honestly, If Floyd's ring IQ was higher, he wouldn't get caught against the ropes as much as he does. I could never imagine B Hop being caught against the ropes, nor Rigo, against the likes of an Ortiz caliber fighter. Mayweather is consistantly caught against the ropes. Against a guy like Donaire, PFP of course, that would be detrimental for a fighter against the ropes because Donaire is a patient, hard punching, counter puncher. Rigo is arguably the best fighter in boxing right now.
He's faster relative to his weight class. Better? Remains to be seen, imo, but am looking forward to him proving or disproving. Both should have significant portions of their careers to go yet. It will be interesting to see if Rigondeux will be able to surpass Ward. At this point Rigo might have better upside considering all the great fights that can be made around his weight. Ward has already beat a lot of his potential competition.
Ward is more multifaceted. You make a point about performance against the highest quality, but styles probably play a little into it as well. I need to see Rigo against more styles before I can completely put him atop Ward. Honestly, I'm still more impressed with Ward's adaptability, and ability to set a gameplan and fight differently according to his opposition. Rigo is probably better at the one thing he does (Boxing, counter-punching) And variety may be overrated, but like I said I need to witness more styles first.
did you watch the X-enzo fight x has great ring IQ, but he also is a big holder and that has nothing to do with special ring IO, where the best way is to slickly move out the way without getting hit and at best counter yourself. but you right on the rest.
What you fail to realize is that PBF likes to fight off the ropes he sets traps whiles he's there. He's the best boxer in the world at fighting off of them. He goes there willingly most of the time.
he dont get caught, he fights off them on purpose....its easy for him to catch, roll and counter back....but yes it has backfired a few times
Rigo has the way better single win. Donaire> Kessler. Now if Rigo goes on to beat Mares and or Mareno then he would have a better record than Ward.
The problem with assessing a fighter off of one win is that it fails to account for the possibility of a favourable style matchup or an off-night by the opponent. The ranks of boxing are filled with the likes of Leon Spinks' who get up for a single fight and then fold against other top opposition. I rank Ward above Rigo because Ward has shown consistency at the top level against a variety of styles, and Rigo simply isn't there...yet. He's shown all the talent and ability to get there, but I need at least 4-5 fights against top opposition before I can seriously rank someone as P4P elite.
Ward is more proven. He has that Olympic pedigree as well but Rigondeaux is a master. even against other masters.
