Yeah, I'm not even quite sure his exact name. Anyway, what does this mean for boxing? It's incredible that a debut garnered such earnings. Most great fighters can't even guarantee that kind of purse. The positives mean boxing gets even more worldwide exposure. Is this a good thing for the international future of boxing? Big fights in China and Asia as opposed to just Vegas & Germany? The concerns that this kid won't step up because he can get away with making so much money without having to risk anything are the obvious downsides. What are your guys thoughts?
My thought are: 1: China's elite are as rich as anywhere else in the world, thanks to massive slave labor, so they can afford it. 2: Who says he actually got paid? (seriously) 3: Regardless, all that hype is good for the sport we love, so I'm all for it. Whatever it actually is.
Long term wise I'm hoping it can inspire other talent. Having another home for boxing can only be a good thing. The more nations we have throwing money at the sport and competing, the better.
You think being an olympic gold medalist is what helped him get that massive debut purse? If i remember right past american gold medalists debuted with great paydays cus of the hype.
Just means boxing is business... His excellent amateur record (Olympic Gold) is just part of it but it's mainly because of his huge market... China.
