Yeah, but I would like to see him beat Darchinyan first. Not that Vic really has a chance, but it would just be the last opponent that Top Rank could really offer him. Then GBP could get him and Mares in the ring. Rigondeaux beats him too. Plus Bob hates him. I think that is a good enough reason to leave.
Because of the level of excitement he brings wont be attractive to the casual boxing fan... Like a Mayweather's style, but unfortunately, he doesnt have the bombastic personality like Floyd has, that draws in attention, both good and bad, to balance out the slower fighting style. The other thing is that he's Cuban. Traditionally, alot of peeps say Cuban fighters are not popular, due to our volatile history with Cuba (ie, dictator and Cuban Missle Crisis). And that there's only a small niche and population that creates fanship for Cubans (Florida). Whatever the case, i really hope he doesnt go the FMJ route... but the opposite. Boxing could use more appealing, positive, and ground to earth role models like Andre Ward. I think Rigondeaux can be one of those guys. If he can do that, he would be able to dispell any negativity his routes from Cuba would create with others... It may be a slower fanbase than one that causes great contention and conflict, but it will definitely be a more loyal and solid fanbase who can truly respect and admire their fighter....
but GBP doesn't give a crap about fighters who aren't potential draws..just like Top Rank. Look at how they were willing to feed Ortiz to Canelo like a Thanksgiving day ham...Hell, they tried to sacrifice him to Berto, but Ortiz whipped his ass...and now they are setting up Malinaggi to be a showcase opponent for Broner. Rigondeaux would get fed to Santa Cruz in a small ring with a favorable ref in a heartbeat.
whenever a fighter he wants to win loses, arum pretends the fight never happened like with morales-zahir rahmen
Ortiz is a sad case. They saw a gold mine and then Maidana happened. Afyer Peterson they realized that Ortiz was not going anywhere so they fed him to Berto (I know Berto is with DBE but it was a money making fight). Ortiz pulls through and gets thrown in there with Floyd ? No way did GBP think he would actually win. After that it was Berto rematch for the money and then Alvarez ? :rofl Poor ol Malignaggi showed weakness against Cano and GBP just doesn´t seem to care anymore.
Agree. Cubans know their boxing and although that fan base will take longer to establish, it will last longer than the the fad following Manny/Donaire fans. But yeah Rigo will be best suited to get out while he can.
