    Cleverly's countryman, Joe Calzaghe, was mentioned heavily on Ringside last week, when Colin Hart, Ian Darke and Tris Dixon looked at the British super-middleweight scene of the 1990s-2000s.

    There were some very talented guys around then, including Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Steve Collins, but for me the undoubted star was Joe, who spent over 10 years as WBO champion and defended the strap on 21 occasions.

    He was unbeaten in his 46 professional fights, which spanned over a period of 15 years, and while at the time people said he fought guys like Roy Jones Jr when they were over the hill, another of his victims, Hopkins, has proved that to be wrong by winning a world title at nearly 50.

    Calzaghe would have had a chance of beating anyone purely because of the amount of punches he threw and how fast his hands were - and for that reason I think he would have toppled Carl Froch had that dream match ever taken place.

    Gotta agree with glen here, not only would he beat him but make him look silly ala ward in the end.

    I think calzaghe could of out boxed froch too, I think he was a smarter fighter than froch is

    Far from it considering where Carl Froch was at the time. Calzaghe was desperately in need of big fights, Carl Froch at the time, was not a big world-level fight. It was a domestic tussle at best and a step back for Joe Calzaghe at the time.

    Carl Froch needs to focus on his own career and legacy, he doesn't help himself by coming across as bitter and jealous, and he certainly doesn't help himself by keeping Joe relevant by talking about him a lot. Like crap-Mack said - "Fake Calzaghe"

    Calzaghe was levels above skill wise. Deep down Froch knows it. He uses Calzaghe's name to try and make his own seem big time, he can say what he wants about Calzaghe, he knows he didnt stand a chance against someone so skillful and even though Froch has improved over time, he still wouldn't stand a chance.

    But we must not make the mistake, we have to look at it back then (the only time the fight could of happened) when Calzaghe was still around, and where Froch was at that time. We can't look at it now.

    I can't stand Sky's pundits and commentators, the bias is cringe worthy and embarrassing. But McRory is right here.

    Joe Calzaghe beats any version of Carl Froch. Carl can't do a thing about it, so he should concentrate on number one from now till the end. End of.

    He never beat the champ in fact I'm pretty sure he's never beaten a top ten fighter.
