In order for Canelo and his team to take on Trout they have to believe he has an answer for the jab. So I began to wonder how they could do this to trout...?

I thought of a few possibilities.

    1. counter left hook

    2. overhand right

    3. feints

    4. make trout come forward

    5. slip to the left and counter

Please criticize and add your own insight

Well for starters he could punch Trout really hard in the face.

I think the best things he can do are slip/duck down to his left and throw a left hook to Trout's body right when Trout throws the jab. It might take him a few rounds to get the timing down though.

He should definitely look for Trout to take the lead though. Trout isn't a slick counterpuncher, he's more of a high volume boxer throwing lots of arm punches from range, and then trying to bail. If Canelo doesn't open up first, Trout will. It's not in his wheelhouse to potshot really well, his single shots don't sting that much. He often had to throw in volume to get to Cotto.

If I were in Canelo's corner, I'd tell him to be sparing on the right hand for the first few rounds, maybe throw it as a lead to start off a few combos, but not put too much heat on it until Trout started to circle away from Ginger's left, which might happen early if he was getting hit with too many body shots there. The moment Trout starts to circle away from Canelo's left though, I'd tell him to start spamming counter overhand rights whenever Trout started to move or throw a straight left.

This video seems to show what you are talking about after the 4:30 mark plus it shows some good handspeed at around the 8 minute mark..:good

Like others have mentioned, slipping towards the left and landing a right hand is a great way. I've said before that throwing with Trout is his best bet, as well as following as he pulls out. If he pressures patiently while controlling the center he'll be able to pick his shots and slowly get closer to the mark. Cotto also did a decent job knocking the jab down but lacked the mobility to capitalize .

    besides bob/weave,

    1. simply employ a stronger jab, which he does have and he needs to remember to jab often, this will shut down a weaker jab

    2. time jab and throw right over the top....

Rip him with body shots after he starts trying to combo off the jab. If Trout can't get Canelo's respect, he's ****ed.
