From what I've heard he's half decent, nothing more. No upset here.

Mike Stafford is alot smaller than Dickinson and will likely try to circle round the outside and move in and out with quick bursts of punches to upset Dickinson's rythm (See footage on youtube of the last round against Similarly large opponent Martyn Grainger) where Stafford prevailed 98-94 over Grainger.

The problem is that Dickinson is quicker than Grainger was, has a decent jab (which Grainger did not have/use at all) and will likely tie up Stafford using his size on the inside. Also Stafford only has 2 stoppage wins in 12 fights.

Heres how their records stack up, Stafford is 11-1 he lost a close 4 rounder 3 1/2 years ago to Billy Boyle and had another close call 4mths earlier winning by 1pt in a 4 rounder against Hastings Rasani, Stafford has only boxed more than 4 rds once, when beating Grainger over 10.

Dickinson 13-2 has been 10 rds or more in 4 of his last 5 fights. Dickinson is also the younger man at 26 to Staffords 31, and has beaten far better competition in Matty Askin, David Dolan, Chris Burton, Shane McPhilbin, Mark Krence & Leon Williams, Dickinson's two losses came in fights he was winning, but were stopped due to a swollen shut eye & a broken jaw. whereas Stafford's best win was against Martyn Grainger a year ago, whose record currently stands at 8 wins & 6 losses.

I see a 117-111, 117-112, 117-111 win on the cards for Jon Lewis Dickinson.

I have noticed on oddschecker that there has been a bit of activity on Mike Stafford at 7/1

Just back from this. The Foot fight was fantastic, he's got great controlled aggression, stoppage was a bit late though. JLD fight was pretty messy, neither really got into their rhythms.

Undercard was good on the whole, nice to see Danny Hughes and Paul Truscott back and was very impressed with Chris Bennet making his pro debut.

Good venue for boxing, £35 seats got me a really good view, only about 5 rows from the ring.

Interesting spot of the night was Frankie Gavin was there.

Yeah I wasn't far out too. I saw Gavin with the SMB players Wes Brown and co. Foot fight was great but you're right the stoppage was late and Dickinson's fight was very messy.

I've got inside word that the next JLD fight might be down Gateshead. I got to hold the belt and meet Frank Maloney after the fight too haha.

Sounds good. Glad to see Foot did well too, the city could get behind him if he pushes on. Did he have a lot of support?

Its a canny venue for boxing, only problem is that its nowhere near Durham or Sunderland or even Houghton town centre!

Which venue would that be then?

Yeah Foot brought plenty with him, definitely had the best support of the night.

Only places I could think of in Gateshead for a JLD fight would be either the Fed Brewery where they put all the unlicensed shows on, or somewhere inside Gateshead Stadium in a function room. Would definitely be good to see some boxing closer to Newcastle!

Yeah it'll be the stadium if it is happening. Jon Lewis told me on Tuesday he's sick of fighting down in Sunderland and I heard Frank Maloney is sick of the place's atmosphere.

I can understand Jon-Lewis's point of view too because after the Foot fight, a lot of people left. If anything Stafford had more fans.

  13. Ive just watched it and it came across as a good show

Maloneys strength is pushing good ticket sellers in small halls at local shows such as this.
Dickinson and foot are good fighters with upward momentum.

Dickinson strikes me as a bloke who looks nothing special then you get in the ring with him and he is a nightmare to handle, tight guard with body and head, short chopping accurate combos and forward motion must make him a hard nights work.
I think he sacrifices his power so he can get more shots away and play to his strengths,he has had a great 12 months and is a well deserved british champion on work rate alone.

Atmosphere came across well and tv wise it was loadeds best effort yet by a long chalk.
Better colours, production, commentary etc. They will get there and i enjoy watching these small hall shows

    Good to see truscott back

Yeah it was definitely a shame that the place emptied quite a bit after Foot had fought. Hats off to Stafford's fans though, they were a rowdy lot, they were standing right next to us.

Would be good to have Jon Lewis fighting at the stadium, you could even do a decent outdoor show with a couple of thousand on the pitch at the Stadium with a good undercard.

Definitely this. There were a couple of young fighters on the card, Callum Winton (in his 3rd fight) and Chris Bennett (pro debut) who brought a really good crowd with them, and he could certainly look to put togethera decent North East based stable with these co-promotions with Phil Jefferies.
