Should Alvarez be concerned of judges pulling a Bradley?

It doesn't matter for two reasons.

If he gets robbed in a very close fight, they'll make another and get paid because Alvarez will still be the big draw. Alvarez will again get the biggest share of the pot.

If the fight is close but Alvarez wins clearly and gets robbed, Alvarez will be considered the better fighter by fans globally because Alvarez has a huge hype machine behind him. He will go on to bigger and better things after this fight anyway, and Trout will go back to what he was before this fight, money-wise.

Because Alvarez is the big draw and because he has the hype-machine behind him, it's unlikely he will get robbed. Remember, 80+% of the fans in the stadium will be Alvarez fans. The location here is somewhat irrelevant.

Its normally the hyped up fighter who gets the gift (bradley pacquiao is a big exception to this rule)

I think most of the time with home decisions, its not a robbery that is planned in advanced, judges paid off etc.. Its being influenced by the crowd.

But there'll probably be more alvarez than trout fans at this one.

 

I agree, I think it was Joe Cortez talking about how judges have the worst seat in the house, and I agree. How can they properly watch a fight when they are below the fight.

Speaks alot of sense. It would be hard not to be influenced by the crowd if you dont have a clear view of the fight.

 

Hopefully Canelo does what I think he will do -- stop Trout -- otherwise the judges will be in for a hard night.

As for whether Canelo has to worry about judges pulling a Bradley, I don't think so. Unlike Top Rank, Golden Boy don't have a stake in Trout and have no interest in trying to secure a rematch with him in future. That was the only reason Uncle Bob had Timmy win.

It's not about nationality anyway. Sometimes the judges just have a bad day at the office. And when they are willfully unfair, it's usually about who makes money for whom.

It's been mentioned 100 times before, but ask Steve Cunningham and Malik Scott how much the judges favored them as Americans fighting foreigners.

 

Uncle Bob went through all that trouble, and broke all sorts of laws, to setup a rematch that has yet to happen almost a year later? I guess Arum is slipping.

 

The only thing he can do is go out there and execute his game plan. If the judges screw him over, than fans will know who really won.

but I'm going to think positive, and hopefully whoever, truly wins gets a fair shake.

 

I see Trout fans already complaining that he will get robbed because Alvarez is the big name fighter. Now you have Alvarez fans complaining that Alvarez will get robbed because Trout is American. Lots of conspiricy theories floating around. We'll see what happens.

 

Yeah, promoters are definitely worried about "breaking laws" when it comes to ensuring biased judging, aren't they. Having Bradley win wasn't to definitely secure a rematch next. It was to make a rematch relevant and keeping options open. And it's worked. Because whenever we talk about who Pac could fight before retiring, Bradley's name still gets thrown around a lot. That would never have happened if Pac won - which would have shortened the list of in-house opponents that Uncle Bob could use while he tries to milk Pac as much as he can before he retires.
