I think he will. For all Roger's faults, he was a damn good fighter (despite the china chin) and his corner advice always seems sound. Jr seems to be suggesting in the press that he's replacing Roger because he got hit too much in the Cotto fight - but isn't Roger always telling him to box more, move more, etc? I could be wrong, but I've not noticed Roger telling him to stand and fight, or go for the KO. I think Jr is making a mistake. He got hit a lot because Cotto is an intelligent, strong, skilled boxer who was well-drilled and determined, and because Jr doesn't have the legs he used to have - not because he had the wrong brother in his corner. This hasty kneejerk reaction could hurt him, once he fights someone closer to his own level and above the Guerrero level of comparative mediocrity, someone such as Canelo. I know the "*****s" love Sr because of his big mouth and partisan approach, but seriously, the guy is a cretin. Aside from the fact he was a vastly inferior boxer to Roger (Sr barely beat one legit opponent in his entire career, dude was a professional can-crusher who lost to every decent guy he fought), Sr is an obsessive egomaniac who refuses to take any responsibility for his role once things get difficult, and often seems to have no feeling whatsoever for his own fighters. His insanely over-inflated and laughably unjustifiable sense of his own value is not what Jr needs once he gets back to serious fighting against the likes of Alvarez. I believe he'll miss the composure, attentiveness and sage advice of Roger.
They#re both in there but Roger's advice is rubbish - box that motherf****, box that motherf*****, that motherf***** too tired, box that motherf*****, that's what we do, that's what we do I could be his damn cornerman Sr .is the better trainer, no question...
Flyd Sr was also a damn good fighter and his style was much more similar to Floyds if anyone is the banger it's Roger I admit I've never concentrated on their corner advice but I doubt he would tell him to start slugging since he's his father and a much more defensive minded fighter than Roger was. The reason why Roger told him to move is probably because he was fighting much more offensive in his last few fights
No. SR makes Floyd more of a complete fighter, has him using his jab way more and not rely mainly on counters. the last time SR was involved heavily with FLoyds training was Marquez and look how good he looked
He's definitely told him to "fight that mother****er" more than once. I'm not sue how accurate it is to guess that the competitiveness of the Cotto fight is the reason he's making the switch. I just think Mayweather is trying to open a new chapter on his life after jail and have a signature end to his career. I'm just worried about these changes because up to know they've had a winning formula. Something just feels different.
Didn't Floyd say in the media this week that he was changing it up because he got hit too much in the Cotto fight? I heard he did say this.
Floyd's older and (usually) fights a better standard of opposition now. I think this has more to do with him getting hit.
I doubt it will make too much difference. He knows how to fight now, I doubt anyone is going to influence him in the ring too much.
Very true and since his legs are not what they use to be im sure defense will be more of the priority .
