Hard to imagine, Floyd is just a bit older than Roy was when he fell from glory.. I think Mayweather's skills will take him a bit further in age than Roy's did... But like said above, he is no Hopkins, his style does not allow for that kind of longevity.

His last few fights need to be picked carefully for him to keep his 0...

The difference between Floyd and Hopkins in terms of their movement is clear as day. Hopkins is always on the move. I've seen him being hit in spurts when he lays against the ropes, but he's always managed to moved out of as quickly as possible unlike Floyd. At the same time, I think we can all agree that Floyd is better at fighting off the ropes than Hopkins. He's done it throughout his whole career.

However it's a type of style that requires fighters to relies heavily on their reflexes and Floyd's reflexes hasn't been as sharp as it has been in the past as of late. Cotto caught him with three back-to-back jabs upstairs when he fought off the ropes around the late rounds 8-10, and Floyd just stood there like his feet were glued to the ground and acted like nothing happened. Hopkins would've been caught once and slipped the two by moving out as quickly as possible.

Hopkin's greatest asset in recent years has been his footwork. He's always moving and never stationary. He pivots away or sidesteps anytime he's in a bind and as you said, he's usually out after the first hit. Most times, his opponents don't land a single clean blow.

he was already shot a long time ago, floyd is so good that even a shot version of him outpointed a better version of marquez than the one who ktfo pac 12-0.

I agree though his footwork has already diminished but he makes up for it with his elite defense, intelligent fighting and easily adapts to his opponents

Floyd's toughness has always been under-rated. Something that people will see now that he is forced to bang away as his physical abilities have declined.

Mayweather has been on the downside since Hatton, just IMO.

I can count the number of clean blows Calzaghe landed on him on one hand.. but yet somehow Calzaghe landed hundreds of punches.:huh

Floyd is always bragging about being a versatile fighter and i know that he is a great one, but he seriously needs to consider an alternative type of defense. He can still use his upper body defense in spurts, but he can also use subtle movement to fight off his back foot every once in a while instead of fighting off the ropes 90% of the time in every rounds as of late.

Key word being clean. Compubox counts punches which appear to land or glances. At least i would assume since it's based on human opinion. If it was just clean punches, Hopkins wins.

Yeah, that fight still gets to me a bit.. Calzaghe clearly took more damage in that fight, he may have landed more "punches" but i think Bernard clearly hurt him more.. If B.Hop was only a few years younger, and could handle Calzaghe's pace a little more, It would have been a much different fight.

he's definitely slowed down however calling him "shot" is stretching it a bit....

credit to Mosley for feinting Floyd open for those two right hands

It seems people are in the business of putting Floyd on a pedestal and having ridiculous expectations onto him instead of crediting other fighters:conf

it would be great for boxing if the Ghost KTFO Mayweather, but that won't happen. At 36, he still has enough in the tank

i don't know, look at sergio martinez, bernard hopkins, george foreman etc etc. sometimes an old dog can learn new tricks, even michael jordan developed that sweet fade away and 3 point shot late in his career.
