Have you seen a fighter who adjust better then Floyd in the ring?

Both are excellent ..I have tremendous respect for any fighter who can make mid fight adjustments ..

 

Ali, by far. Started out slugging with Foreman, wasn't getting it done. Got on his toes, wasn't getting it done. Put his back to the ropes and got it done that way. Morphed into three totally different fighters in the space of about two rounds. Never seen Floyd do that.

Floyd is a boxer-puncher to begin with, he can come to you and knock you out or he can stay on the outside and outbox you. It's not so much an adjustment as it is the way he fights and always has.

Floyd is actually incredible at adjus.ting, it's easy to miss the intricacies of his game if you aren't paying close attention. Go watch the Cotto fight, where Cotto was using a very tight high guard. Around rounds 3 or 4, Mayweather began sweeping his right hand, looping it around Cotto's high guard, and started getting in some great shots. Cotto then began defending against that better, so Mayweather in the later rounds began faking the sweeping right, and then throwing an uppercut between Cotto's gloves, after Cotto had spread his gloves wider to defend against the sweeping right he thought was coming. Mayweather is a brilliant tactician, you will see him throw many unorthodox punches when he finds an opening, that's why he has always been so great in the later rounds, he dissects opponents apart.

Floyd is good at ad******g... but bear in mind the best guys he has adjusted well to have been guys like Judah, past-prime Oscar, past-prime Cotto, etc.

SRL was showing superb adjustments against a VASTLY superior calibre of opponent, as was Pernell Whitaker a lot of the time.

This cannot be overlooked.

46 times they have tried but he adjusted for every one of them. Dude's like Welsh spring water from the Caephilly Mountains - you put spring water into a cup, it becomes the cup; you put Welsh spring water in the ring, it become the greatest boxer of all times! ALL times

 

He's got great ring IQ. No denying.

Shame we missed some great clashes he could have been involved in.

Would have loved to see how him and freitas countered each others styles. Casa would have been a boring fight but interesting from a tactical viewpoint. The tension generated between a Floyd v tszyu fight would have been epic and it's hard to pick a winner there.

Most of all though I'd have loved to see him up against the Margo that beat cotto. I'm sure he'd have started off boxing but at some point he'd have had to stand his ground and fight and seeing how that story ends would have been a real treat for fight fans.

As I said, it's a shame.

 

SRL is the greatest adjuster of all time.
