I scored the fight for Trout but with 90% of the people scoring it for Canelo I will watch it again tomorrow at a more reasonable hour Looks to me like Canelo has some major stamina issues though what does everyone else think? From the 6th round on he looked knackered to me, he was doing **** all for 2:30 of each round and then landing one big shot or throwing a flurry of punches. I mean he looked okay to me tonight, some of his counter punching was nice but man he looked tired early. I suppose you could argue Trout was the best 154lber so this won't cause he problems because he won't fight anyone better than that for some time. I assume the Floyd fight won't happen because of the size difference but if Floyd can handle the size difference then I don't see how Canelo can win throwing 4 big shots per round.
Agree completely. A drastic change occurred at like the midpoint of the 6th round, you could see the fatigue clearly. From there on out he fought exclusively in infrequent spurts. The biggest concern is that it's not like he threw a ton of punches/got hurt badly leading up to that point. He just gassed. He did some things better than expected, namely making Trout miss. The punches he threw were explosive and in the EXCHANGES they were accurate (some good counter uppercuts/jabs). But that was an almost pathetic display of stamina for a prize fighter on his level.
Yeah exactly! Trout didn't land anything big, he was just controlling the fight IMO (obviously not everyone else's!) then suddenly Canelo just started going backwards!
It's obvious, and I've noted it many times. Canelo explodes, and that takes a lot of energy. Trout's work-rate pratically kept him in the fight because Canelo is actually the better boxer, the bigger puncher, and arguably the smarter fighter. That's why he looked so superior but only win by a point on most people's cards'.
That's what I was thinking. I read somewhere that he was 170lbs tonight, is that true or were they just guessing?
His stamina and footwork will be his downfall. He's likely going to avoid Floyd until he thinks Floyd is completely aged out.
Showtime gave fight night weights. He was 172. To put that in perspective, Andre Ward who fights 2 weight classes higher, was 176 against Dawson.
Both Trout and Canelo were over 170 tonight- I was suprised myself. I believe both of them have huge weight issues, meaning I expect Trout to soon move up to 160 and for Canelo to wait for his big fight with Floyd and then -win ore lose, likely lose- he'll move up. But yeha, my prediction pretty much relied on Canelo's stamina issues which he clearly has, but he responds to it wisely with his movements and careful shots. Trout could've done better even though I had him ahead (114-113) but it could've gone either way. I think Canelo will end up like a Mexican Miguel Cotto, he'll beat everybody except the best of the best.
****! 172!? It has to be the weight then because there's no way a fighter should be gassing like that after 6 rounds.
Both are big strong guys. It wasn't like Canelo was bullying around a smaller man. He was in with a big strong guy and did well when he threw punches.
Mark my word. As soon as 3G moves to 168, Canelo moves to 160. The Mayweather fight will not happen folks.
