Fury is Dangerously underrated. He fought a bad gameplan tonight, as its his 1st fight in MSG. Fury is a much better boxer than this. He dominated johnson over 12 rounds beating him easy that a Klitchko. With regards 2 chin. I disagree. Because ive seen him take massive shots. And the 2 times he got dropped he seemed to recover almost instantly. He is no way perfect, but he can fight in a few styles to win fights, he changed it up against cunningham to get the win. He can also tough it out. But the most important thing for me. Is the guy is fun. He's an entertaining heavyweight fighter. with a crazy personality. He'll bring alt of fun to the division
I thought Cunningham's tactics would be different--more like Haye or Holyfield vrs. Valuev. He had to move alot more but Fury was fairly quick and had lots of varied punches. Cunningham couldn't surivive long unless he steered clear of the clinches. Fury's stint with Kronk paid dividends today.
So was Butterbean but he never claimed he was going to "clean up the HW division". The question is what does Fury want to be? A barfight slugger who brawls with B and C level opponents for pure entertainment? Or a genuine HW contender who can step up to beat the HW champ? He keeps telling us he is the latter but he lacks to back it up with evidence in the ring.
Watch the Johnson fight. He dominated him over 12 rounds easier than than Vitali. I've got nothing against a fighter saying he's going to clean out a division. Nothing wrong with aiming high. I dilike the disrespect he shows everyone, so i don't particularly like him as a person. But i think characters like that are entertaining in the sport.
Funny stuff the people defending Fury. He won't last two rounds against either Klitschko. I was laughing at how awkward Fury's movement was. It's not a good awkward like Vitali either. ***** Fury looks like a modern-day Kevin McBride.
Fury may not have a glassly glass jaw but a bloated CW put him on his ass. Imagine what a real HW would have done...
He performed **** but fhis chin talk is nonsense How many boxers get caught with a looping over hand right on the nose ffs. Slate his low left guard not his chin. I don't think I've ever seen so much criticism for knocking your opponent out in 7.
It's amazing how some people confuse hate with genuine and well deserved criticism. I was expecting a possible upset as I think some people under rated how good Cunningham really is and while the upset did not happen, USS clearly exposed Fury's flaws again for everyone to see. Anyone thinking Fury does not have a very below average chin is kidding themselves. Cunningham is hardly regarded as any kind of puncher (only 2 ko's in the last 6 year) and he had Fury seriously hurt by a looping overhand right. At least Wlad and Lewis got stopped by genuine big hitters like Sanders, Brewster, McCall and Rahman. What happened last night was like Wlad being dropped and seriously hurt by Byrd which is simply unimaginable even for a weak chinned fighter like Wlad. Also no way should the guy with 6 inches in height and a significant reach advantage be out boxed like Fury was last night. He looked simply awful his lack of defence and coordination was shocking, it seemed at times just walking towards his opponent took all his effort not to stagger about like a new born foal. Chin in the air, guard down and off balance, not the attributes any fighter should look to emulate. On the positive side, he showed heart, power and self belief. He never looked like he was going to fold despite being hurt so badly and while divides he people he is undoubtedly exciting to watch. But if he is going to remain undefeated he needs do be more controlled in the ring like in the Johnson fight and be brought along slowly he is no way ready for any kind of title shot.
I agree whole-heartedly. Cunningham was great. He just got leaned on for 7 rounds by some big oaf. Cunningham has great skills. The size disadvantage was just too much. Those of us who know boxing know who is the more skilled fighter.
Accurate breakdown. I get the feeling Tyson knows all of what you just said about Cunningham punching lightly, not having knockout power, and fought far too recklessly as a result. He nearly paid for that oversight in a big way: he found out firsthand that, light puncher or not, a 200+ pound professional boxer can still do real damage if you let them tee off like that. This fight was a wake-up call for Fury. He's still young enough to improve and I've already seen him fight smarter. There's a comfortable middle ground to operate in where he can assert his advantages and put on a fan friendly fight without fighting like a bumbling ogre. If he doesn't find it, a bigger puncher will lay him out. If he had Valuev's chin, that'd be one thing. That's not the case. That said, I'm still looking forward to his next fight.
He didn't look particularly hurt to me. His problem is his balance and co-ordination. In fact I don't think he would gone down had he had his feet under him properly. He mostly arm punches, he rarely puts his hips and knees into his punches. Even when he shoved Cunningham he went backwards. I think he needs a quality trainer who knows how to work on these specific problems. Its all well and good to improve his general conditioning but he looks very awkward in the ring. As everyone keeps saying though, he's young and has plenty of time to improve provided he has the right attitude and seeks out top level coaching.
