So, Why Did You Score The Fight for CANELO ALVAREZ?

I had it for Canelo because I thought he made Trout miss all night and landed the cleaner shots himself. But it was close. Trout probably threw twice the number of shots but very few of any note. Canelo could have done more - he needs to Work on transitioning from his (impressive) defense into offense so he can take advantage of some of those misses. Still a good, close fight.

 

I thought Canelo won the fight, though I scored it a draw(I know that doesn't make sense) but I scored the fight honestly on my card and I came up with 115/115, even though I thought Alvarez did just enough to take it in all actuality.

 

I have Canelo. Landed the most memorable shots and harder shots and also showed great punch slipping.

 

He wasn't dominant enough to compensate for the knockdown on points. He got up, Canelo chased for a bit, then Trout made a stand, but did not land anything spectacular.

 

exactly. I had a draw bar the KD. Scored the 7th 10-8, so I had Canelo by two points. Close fight in which Canelo landed the more accurate, harder damaging shots. Trout won rounds with activity but was surprised by Canelo slickness and missed a lot of his jabs.

 

I definitely think it should be allowed to score a kd round 10-9 if the other fighter proceeds to control the rest of the round. Otherwise, what incentive is there for a fighter to put in any more work in a round where he has been knocked down? Better just to coast and preserve energy for the next stanza.

 

Save his ass from being KOed is good reason to fire back most of the time.

P.S. in this case seeing Trout doing a brake dance stumbling around. Who has put more damage throughout the round. I can't believe we are even discussing a 10-9 in that round.

 

i'm gonna have to re-watch that round, to see how Trout really did in the remainder of the round. another member here stated that Trout didn't really land anything of note after the knockdown, and Canelo did enough to ensure it was 10-8.

but the point I was making is that in the past rounds were automatically scored 10-8 when there was a knockdown...unless the other guy got a knockdown. it's hard to say "Trout clearly won the round...besides the knockdown". How about when Rigo was knocked down last weekend? Did Rigo clearly win the round...besides the knockdown?

If you are just substracting -1 from Trout's score, and scoring the round straight up, and you say Trout clearly won the round, then wouldn't that round be scored 9-9? (10-9 Trout minus the knockdown?) this is why this is tricky. i thought (from wathicng a lot of fights over the years on HBO), the general consesus was when you get knocked down, for it to be anything other then 10-8, you have to do something extraordinary. and i don't believe Trout did something extraordinary, but like I said I'll watch it again before I make a decision. of course judges don't have the ability to re-watch rounds again. which is why I think most official judges would score that round 10-8. (not that you're wrong scoring it 10-9) like i said i think recently, both HBO and showtime commentators seemed more willing to score knockdown rounds 10-9 instead of 10-8, whereas in the past it would have been automatic 10-8s.

 

lol Trout didnt control that round. Saul knocked him down early, and still landed the best punches after that knockdown. In fact he hurt him against with another right hand.

The 10-8 rounds can b pile of ****, alot of the time a fighter will control a whole round and be kd purely by being offbalance , that sort of **** does not warrant losing 2 points.

 

To show you my un-biasedness, I bet my v-cash on Alvarez, but I give credit where it is due. Trout landed a bunch of punches after the KD whilest Alvarez took the round off. Easy 10-9.

 

Who did more damage in rd 7? Trout may have finished strong but he didnt inflict more damage. That kd had him seriously hurt and wobbled. Canelo did more damage wins him the rd, Trout loses a point cuz he hit the canvas. 10-8. Simple.

 

Thanks for the link. Canelo was all over him AFTER the knockdown. He came out landed a jab, then Canelo landed another right hand that nearly dropped Trout again. Then some back and forth, then with 1:37 left in the round Canelo lands another huge right hand that nearly dropped Trout AGAIN.

With 37 seconds left in the round, Canelo landed a huge one two combo. Trout did stay active and did fight valiently, but it was mostly just glancing jabs. There's no way you could claim that Trout clearly won the round after the knockdown. It was back and forth, at best for Trout, after the knockdown. However, at the end of the round, in the final moments, Trout did land a nice left hand and a few body shots to end the round, but in no way did Trout clearly win that round. Even without the knockdown, I would still score that round for Canelo 10-9, because of the well placed shots. IMHO a solid 10-8 round for Canelo, even if you leave open the possibility of Trout getting a point back with solid work after the knockdown.

 

Watch the link provided on youtube of the 7th round. Canelo definetly did not take off the remainder of the round. after Trout got up, Canelo came out chasing Trout and throwing punches. Canelo took off the 12th round, becuase of the open scoring. but after watching the 7th again, there's no way you can conclude that Canelo "took off" the remainder of the round. Trout didn't take off the round either. both guys were throwing, and Trout did end the round strong with a nice left hand followed up by body shots with Canelo covering up on the ropes, but from after the knockdown until those final seconds, Canelo landed the bigger punches.
