So, Why Did You Score The Fight for CANELO ALVAREZ?

I have Trout winning as well. But I'm not upset as it was a close fight. Canelo showed good defense but he also showed he relies too much on one punch power (which is pretty impressive if he lands cleanly). He's earned the top spot in his division but he's not anywhere near the talent of the top P4P fighters. Although if Floyd looks bad against RG, Canelo beats Floyd due to Mayweather's decline and size differential. I can't believe the judges had Trout fooled in believing he lost. He did enough to earn a draw at least. No hate. I'm glad Canelo won. Sometimes it's good when a guy you root against wins.

I will say Canelo does have that one punch game changer which can put a fight in the bag for him even if he's losing by a big margin.

 

I think what you are describing is more revelent to Donaire's knockdown last week on Rigo, then the 7th round of Canelo vs Trout. Rigo popped right back up as if he just lost his balance, and proceeded to continue to outbox. but with Trout, he was legitimately stunned and wobbled from the knockdown, and wasn't on firm footing (like Rigo was) when he got back up. not only that, but Canelo continued to apply the pressure and landed some huge punches throughout the remainder of the round.

i think you have to take down the severity of the knockdown into account when making a decision as to whether it is a 10-8 or a 10-9. the problem i have with scoring a knockdown round 10-9, is that, you are basically lessening the value of a knockdown. a knockdown might only happen once a fight, so unless you score a lot of 10-10 rounds (which most judges don't), then I think you have to give a knockdown a 2 point round. i mean how many rounds do these judges just pick who they prefer when it could be scored even and there is no knockdown in the round? when you get a knockdown, imo it should be a huge bonus on the cards, and shouldn't just be a regular 10-9 round.

 

After rewatching round 7 with crazy espanol I'm convinced that Malinaggi is just a little butthurt that punching power matters. Malignaggi is always the one getting up from KDs and sending out flurries that do no damage and hit or miss. He empathizes with Austin Trout in RD 7 even though the round was even. He just saw Trout get up and keep flailing the jab, landing some **** shots every once in a while and gave the round back to Trout. He rewarded Trout with a point the same way you would award a fat girl the miss congeniality award in a fashion show.

A lot of weak **** on these forums. Much of Trout's activity didn't hurt Canelo or didn't even hit him. Canelo landed cleaner, harder, more technically sound punches that also demonstrated he was in control of his own destiny. Rewatching the seventh round confirms that the Showtime announcers and Paulie Pitter Patter Malignaggi are biased.

The 7th round was competitive. If there wouldn't have been a KD, I think a draw would have been reasonable. But when a round's close and a fighter scores a KD, it's very hard not to score that round a 10-8 unless the other fighter is dominant (and has enough time to be dominant). Trout was definitely not dominant.

Now, I've slept through most of the fight, so have no idea who should have won. But round 7 is definitely a 10-8 round.

I scored it 114-113 for Canelo, 6rds for each one, maybe it could be 114-113 for Trout, 7 for Trout and 5 for Canelo, but I watched in youtube this morning on mexican speakers and I'm not a judge; although the man who scored it 118-110 shouldn't be a judge...

IMO Canelo won rds1 and 2. Then Trout won rds 3, 4 and 5. Was winning the sixth until Canelo layed on ropes and caught him with counters and wobbled him.

Then I got it even at the start of 7th, which I scored 10-8 for Canelo.

After that I don't remember exactly, but there were close rounds. I would have not problem to score it a draw. I'm not a fanboy of neither of them. I liked Trout heart and activity, and I like the way Canelo realized that he was doing better defensive that trying to pressure Trout.

 

Yeah, watching the 7th again, the idea that it could be 10-9 is completely laughable.

Sometimes a color commentator can be great at what happens "on the field," but mess up basic "off the field" stuff because it's just on their area of expertise. That's all Paulie did. The fact that so many viewers followed him in that scoring is a great example of how influential commentators can be.
